Clara could feel the tension constricting her chest, waiting to take over. Air churned behind him, gathering and molding into what she could make out like birds—ten of them—flapping their wings in a beat. The small birds did a little show in a swooping arc and glide. The flutter of their small wings had Clara’s heart doing the same. As they glided in swiftness, a flash of rich browns and brilliant blues followed them in a trail.

She whispered. Sara sniffed the bird as Megan had bent down to scoop it up and cradle it to her chest. She began a quite chant that brought her strength to the top as she twitched her wrist and passed two fingers lightly of the broken wing. With a chirp, she let the bird go. Megan smiled as she watched it fly higher and higher.

Robin boasted with a wide grin. "I can not wait to see her again, but how would she know where we are?" Lacey pointed out. "I know how," Robin said. "Remove the barrier around us, Sia." After the barrier was brought down, Robin chirped lowly, mimicking a bird cry. Soon, a bird landed on his open palm. He touched the head with his finger and the bird leaned into his hand. He began caressing the small head of the bird. He lifted the bird to his lips and whispered some things to it before allowing it to fly away.

She did not attempt to hide her disdain. "We have studied the great birds of my land, and we know they can see a field mouse from up there. We have also discovered some birds have a penchant for shiny objects. There isn't harm in trying to divert its attention, is there?" "Quiet both of you. Let's see if Aurelia's theory proves true," Ayasu twirled her hand, and the stones circled vertically in front of her. Aurelia could've sworn the old lioness enjoyed the danger. Slowly, carefully, I leaned in closer, whispering under my breath as I tried to calm it further, making sure it stayed still long enough for what I needed. My fingers shifted slightly, careful not to alarm it. Eric was apparently trying and failing to coax a little bird to him with breadcrumbs. “How does Faline do it?” Eric moaned in exasperation. “Patience," Faline giggled. His head snapped around toward her; the sudden movement causing the bird to fly away. The blonde looked offended, his lips forming a slight pout. “I can be patient.” Faline sat beside Eric and glanced at Trūx Seiki who was watching her with a smile. “Here. I’ll show you," she said. She took the bread from Eric and began demonstrating how to earn a bird’s trust. Just when she had coaxed the bird to eat breadcrumbs out of her hand, Tara’s loud voice scared it away.

My soul says so. Justus passes behind me and then in front of me again. He stops, the males fanning out behind him, furling into a new configuration. He steps forward and back, one foot, then the other, his lips curled up in invitation. I suddenly feel disproportioned. My feet are cafeteria trays. My arms are fence posts. He does the sequence of steps again, a shuffle closer, a quick hop back. Isn’t this what male birds do to attract their mates? What do the female birds do back? Stand there awkwardly and wish they’d stop?

Jai checked once again on the bird, noticing it was still busy, so he whistled softly to get its attention. “(whistle) Birdy, hey!” It attracted the bird’s attention and it suddenly looked up. Upon seeing Jai, the bird stood up straight and tilted its head to the right. It then squawked like a goose and stepping its right foot backwards as if attempting to run away. Jai smiled softly and held out his right hand while keeping his other hand behind him but visible in the bird’s sight. “Hey… We just want a ride. Think you can help us with that?”
