Luckily – well, depending on your definition of lucky,” he frowned, “you didn’t break anything.” My fingers moved tentatively to probe at my sore side and thigh. LUCIAN’S POV I froze as I slowly turned back to the doctor, my throat tightening all over again. “What is the bad news?” I forced out, my voice trembling in fear. The doctor’s expression shifted, it wasn't a sad expression but a look that meant the worst part hadn’t been spoken yet. He drew in a steady breath before he started, “Your mate sustained a significant head injury when she fell. The impact caused trauma near the temporal region, the part of the brain that affects memory and awareness.”

Guilty flooded me when I saw sweat beads on their foreheads, and their necks bared as the crushing weight of my aura pressed down against them. I sighed as I pulled my aura in. Almost instantly, all five of my men sighed in relief. When the door opened, my men were on their feet and standing behind me, eagerly waiting to hear what the doctor had to say. “He’s going to be okay. He had a pretty good-sized gash on his head. It was about four inches long. I closed the wound up with 14 staples. He has a hairline fracture and a minor concussion.
