Summer's POV As soon as the plane touched down and I powered on my phone, the notification chime went off like a machine gun, threatening to shred my last nerve. The screen lit up with dozens of missed calls and voice messages—every single one from Alpha Foster. He’d been blowing up my phone since last night, sending a message almost every hour: At 7 PM, his first “apology”: 【Summer, last night was my fault. I lost control.】 【I bought gifts for you and Felix. I’m coming home soon.】

he said quietly before casually grabbing an apple from the fruit rack, as if he hadn’t just turned my world upside down. I clenched my fists. This summer was going to be hell.

“ meet Daisy my best friend of all time, we have been friends since we were 7 years old, our parents were also friends and close partners, we were just like a big extended family" “ Hey girl", Daisy said as she hugged her “ I've missed you all summer and guess what, I've got the best news and you gonna love it", she screeched. “Did I forget to mention, she is crazy and I love her still, also very loud sometimes”. “ Well I miss you too dear, gimme a hug", she said, drawing her in. “ bad manners, I just have a lot to talk about with you and I can't wait for you to hear it all".

It was crazy, I knew, but I couldn’t get him out of my head. Summer and I danced together, laughing as she threw in some exaggerated moves to coax a smile out of me. “See?” she said, spinning around me. “You don’t need anyone to make you happy tonight. I’ve got you covered!” She winked, and I laughed for real this time, a warmth spreading through my chest. Maybe she was right. Maybe I could leave it all behind for one night—Madison, Caleb, Abby, the chaos of my life. Just for a moment.

I like the taste of the almond milk too though so there are no complaints from me as I follow pouring the milk after she pours the cereal. We eat the cereal outside in the sunlight, letting it absorb into our skin and collect all the dopamine we need for now. I pull out my phone, gasping at the five percent sign in the upper right corner. I let Kehlani know I’m going to call my boss before walking around to the back of her RV to have a little more privacy. “How’d it go?” She asks as her eyes are on the clouds. “Well,” I plop down next to her and look at the sky, “I got fired.”

Summer POV "Oh my goodness, they are coming!" Tania screams clutching her head. "Who Tania? Who is coming?" Hermes questions but Tania seems not to hear him. She keeps swaying side to side murmuring things we cannot fully discern. "It's daybreak. The sun is barely up and they are here. No. No it's not this place. Oh God Summer! You have to help your brother Lenny. Help him they are eating everyone up in their way. What are they Summer? Please tell me what are they?"

But I never expected to meet her like this. I don't know what is happening... We were best friends... Until that day... When her whole family disappeared like they never existed... And then today she again came with her new parents... I... I ... I don't know what is happening... How could someone's parents change.... They are not some property or car that you sell the old one and bought a new one... Aghhhhh... My head is spinning... These siblings are making me go crazy... This family is mysterious... I just want to run away....

“Are you interested in some props for the Last Day of Summer Fest? We offer free juice and photos on the side.” “When is the day?" “Pardon?” Valentina looked over at her like she was staring at a grade two child. “When is the fest?” Colleen had no idea so she looked to Tobias for help and thankfully, he answered. “21st of this month. A few superstars like Johnny Crane, and Naomi Statham will be in attendance. I would recommend you get a summer hat for the occasion but unfortunately, we’re sold out. So, how about a tee shirt?”

Then, time passed by. It was the weekend, and I visited home. I had my phone on silent but by the looks of it, each minute that passes, it lights up with a message. I look at my phone in my hands only to roll my eyes at it. Brye has been bombing my phone with messages and he won’t stop obviously until he gets the reply that he wants. For the rest of the drive, I was only looking outside while listening to music. It felt weird. The ride felt weird for some reason.

Most especially the sudden craving for things that aren't even necessary at all. This morning around 6am, yasira ran up to rahama's room to wake her up just because she wants an ice-cream. Rahama who was startled at first because of the way yasira barged into her room thought the house was on fire. The moment aunty yasira stated her reason for barging into her room like that, she was rendered speechless. Just because of an ice-cream. Since then rahama had been giving her the cold shoulder for waking her up like that. She has dressed up nicely for work and was on her way out but aunty yasira had to stop her again and the whole drama started all over again.
