Serena got up and started towards the door, her pace slow and dragging as though she was carrying enormous burden on her fragile shoulders.
Grasping the railing, she slowly made her way up to her room. She felt drained, the weight of her sorrow had settled upon her bones, even heaving a breath felt like a task. The mansion felt suffocating, an oppressive gloom clinging to every corner of their home. As soon as she entered her room, she closed the door and slid down against it, collapsing into her despair. She curled into herself, arms tightly wrapped around her body, and let out an anguished howl against her arm.
