At their head stood Madam Lee, immaculate as always, her smile sharp as glass.
“Well, well,” she purred, her voice carrying easily through the cavernous space. “My dear Death Squad. Planning a little adventure without permission?”
The squad bristled. Weapons raised, shoulders squared, they looked ready to fight even against impossible odds.
“Stand down,” Madam Lee said lightly, as though addressing children. “You’ve caused quite enough trouble already.”
“No,” Alex snapped, stepping forward. His weapon trembled in his hands but his voice did not. “You abandoned her. You sent us on a suicide mission, and now you expect us to sit back while she rots in Russo’s hands?”
