Novel & Cerita Summer Reading Challenge

Logically, it was something to treasure. But… Summer sighed as she curled up on the couch with her laptop, logging back into the hacker website. After she uploaded the photo of the silver sports car, she clicked on the button to complete the challenge. The public chat exploded instantly. "X found Nono?" "It hasn't even been 24 hours!" At the same time, Terrence was still trying to track down Summer's location. His phone buzzed with a notification that told him his challenger had completed the task and was requesting verification.

Summer felt like she was struck by something. She suddenly had no strength and lay on the seat motionlessly. "It's over, I can't do this." "Come on, is it really that bad? It's just one more day," Gale asked. "One day, 24 hours, 440 minutes, 86,400 seconds." Summer counted on her fingers. "They say that time drags, but one more day feels like an extra year to me! Do you think it's easy?"

The entire summer went by before our senior year started like any of the other summers I have experienced, probably because all it usually includes is me drowning myself in the depths of an amazingly written book, going to the gym and training for the swimming season for school. All while Madi is out there setting the latest summer trends, having fun with her girls – Chloe Valentine, organising bonfires on the beach for sunset and having boys gawk at her and girls wanting to be her. We are honestly two opposite sides of the same coin. She is warm and sunny, while I'm cold and gloomy – that's probably why I'm drawn to the water, like a moth to a red hot flame.

"Are you okay? Like for real, okay?" Aiden nodded, sucking in a breath of salty air and releasing it with a sigh. "I think so. Or at least, I will be. You've given me a lot to think about. Thanks for symbolically smacking me upside the head." Jessie gave her a half smirk at that, then looped her arm through Aiden's once more. "Anytime, Bestie." "Now that my dicey love life is out of the way, Mitch suggested I float this to you. What do you think about having the wedding here at my place this summer? Right on the beach…"

she replies, smiling. Oh, wow, that went better than I thought it would, “Promise? You aren’t just saying that?” I question, “Promise. We are on the same page.” She answers. I instantly relaxed, knowing we were thinking the same, for now, but there was a chance my recent thoughts would reappear, but I will just continue to fight them for the rest of our time because after the summer, we go back to our lives and possibly not see each other. “What do you want to do today?” I ask, “Or do you want to write some more?” I added.

I spit out not giving any room for her to think over my words. Summer stands from the chair and her petite height makes her head to be on my chest. She is ridiculously short. What she does next takes the breath away from my lungs. Summer climbs on my legs and using her hands to grab my shoulder, she stands on her tiptoes. This makes her come to my face and she is so close that I smell her jasmine fragrance. So natural. "The only line I would be crossing in the next ninety days is a personal one," she blurts out.

Something about being quiet after ten o’clock at night, that breakfast was served at eight, and some different ideas of what to do in the city. “Also,” she said, handing me a flyer, “you have to participate in our Summer Fest the day after tomorrow!” The flyer was a bright pink color with a sun in the top right corner. It was nicely done and created a whole vibe for the theme they were going for. “Thank you, I might check it out,” I answered with a genuine smile. Lovely lady.

I laid out the visitation schedule clearly. It would be three times a week, with the location chosen by Bella. Alfred booked an expensive restaurant. The children's menu was beautifully crafted, featuring teddy-bear shortbread pastries and a chocolate fountain. But after looking at the photos, Bella shook her head. "I have to wash my white sneakers with Mommy on Wednesday night." Alfred was briefly stunned. "You can wash your shoes tomorrow." She answered even more seriously, "Thursday is sports day at school. I need clean shoes."

What do normal people do when they come to Crete for a summer vacation? They probably post photos on I*******m with captions like "Sun, sea, sand #blessed," sip ouzo in the evenings, smash plates, and just soak up that effortless island vibe. And what am I doing? I’m covering my ears with my hands, counting prime numbers backward in my head, and trying not to lose my absolute mind. I am in a literal marathon to stay sane.
