When we picked Sunny up by the side of the road back then, it had been abandoned in a cardboard box. It had probably just been born, as its yellow fur was still wet with amniotic fluid. Its breathing was very weak. We had to bring Sunny home very carefully. We fed it milk and watched it all night, and finally managed to save it. Sunny had been our companion for six years. It had grown up with us. It was the member of the family that I felt closest to. Arabella looked quietly at me and pulled out a small knife.
