Twenty-Nine winces, turning his head from side to side, trying to avoid the blinding light. Steam rises from his skin and finally his head lifts. His yellow eyes meet mine and he snarls revealing tiny, pointed teeth. Tyron increases the beam from the lights and Twenty-Nine begins to hiss, his skin flaking like cinders from a fire. Kellen nods again and Tyron decreases the light. Interesting. “Where is Senko's base of operations?” Kellen asks, again calmly not showing any emotion, his gaze hard and face stoic as he waits for an answer.

It was fluid. The entity was composed entirely of a shimmering, superheated liquid metal a smart-alloy controlled by the localized Founder AI. It didn't have a face, just a shifting, humanoid torso that flowed directly out of the floorplates. It radiated a wave of heat so intense that the air around it warped and shimmered like a mirage. "A Mercury-Sentinel," I whispered, taking a step back. "It's an autonomous defense protocol. Physical attacks will just pass right through it, and the metal is hot enough to instantly melt kinetic rounds."

The trance in her mind was broken when she heard him introduce her. "Guys, this is Catherine, our new little fish," said Miguel, who soon moved away from her as Diego approached to shake hands with the newcomer. "Welcome to the shark tank, dear. I'm Diego, your teammate along with Rogerio, that unfriendly guy back there," he said, pointing to the friend who was approaching.
