Survival Horror Books Novels & Stories

I have read a few of these books. Shaking away the strange icy feeling I flip open the cover and start to read. The sun has started sinking, the sky painted with hues of purple, orange, and red. This is truly my favorite time of day. The book was short but there was a lot of information on werewolves. Information, what do I mean, werewolves don't exist. Or do they? It is that voice again. The same one from this morning. A voice that isn’t mine. A voice inside my head.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure we might actually be on the same page for once. Oh, I was more than fine, and couldn’t wait to get inside her later. “Glad to see you two shits are still alive and kicking,” I smirked at Wolfe and Arron, hopping up to stand to my feet. If they only knew how worried they had me. The burning gazes of unfamiliar faces were on me, making me more aware that like Onyx had said, we were surrounded by not only wolves but vampires too. How random. They had come together to rescue me?

It’s something deeper, darker, like the embodiment of every nightmare, every fear, every unholy thing clawing its way to the surface. And then. Blaire’s screams. This is different. This is fear. Raw. Terrified. Begging. “Jake. Jake, please! Wait- ” The sound that follows is wet. A sickening crack. A choked gurgle. Then silence. I stare up at the sky, feeling the edges of my vision flicker. The stars look sharper than usual, like someone took a knife to the sky and carved them out. I wonder if that means I’m dying.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as I ran my fingers over the embossed title: Nightstalkers; Hunting the Creatures of the Night. As I opened the book, I felt a shiver run down my spine. The pages were old and worn, their corners curling up from years of use. The illustrations within were both beautiful and terrifying, depicting hunters fighting against the creatures I had come to learn about; werewolves, vampires, and other beasts of the night. As I read through the book, I felt my heart racing with excitement and fear. I learned about the different types of hunters and their techniques for tracking and killing these dangerous creatures. Not just words spilling out this time. Scenes. Creatures. Hazards. One thick volume labeled CASTLE HAZARDS struck a stone, flipped open, and vomited a swarm of translucent, wailing shapes—castle ghosts, their eyes hollow, fingers like icicles. They shrieked and arrowed toward us in a ragged storm. Another book, NEON DRONE PATTERNS, burst against a fallen shelf. Drones extruded from the pages like wasps from a nest, metal bodies shining, eyes already lighting up with target locks.

"You loved reading too?" "Still do." He moved beside me, shoulders relaxed for the first time since we'd entered the house. "Books were my escape. When things got tough here, I could just disappear into another world for a while." I pulled out a book at random and laughed. "No way - 'Howl at Midnight'? I loved this series!" "You read paranormal novels?" His eyes lit up with genuine surprise and excitement. "Are you kidding?" I gestured at his shelves. "These are all my favorites! 'Moon's Curse', 'The Pack', 'Blood of the Wolf'..." I trailed off, realizing something. "Wow, we really do have the same taste. All paranormal."

I dropped the books on my bed and flipped one open. It was full of what I already knew: Those bitten by werewolves never survive the full transformation. The poison kills them. End of story. My chest tightened. That couldn’t be true. I was alive. I flipped through faster, scanning for anything new. But everything said the same thing. Death. Pain. Suffering. Nothing about healing or heightened senses. Frustration burned in my throat. I shut the book too hard. Then I saw it—something odd near the back. A few pages were stuck together. Glued, maybe. I frowned, prying at the edge until it came loose.
