“At least… not yet.” “No..!” I jerked against their hold, but it was useless. One of the men grabbed my arm, holding it out firmly. I thrashed. Screamed. Even begged. But the needle was already there. And seconds later.. a sharp pain tore through me.. The liquid burned as it pushed into my veins. Vivianne smiled like she had just won a lottery ticket. The men released me and for a split second, hope flared. This was my chance. I pushed up.. but my body failed me.

“You are.” Cassian finally looked at him. Crimson eyes calm— Adrian closed the book. “No,” he said gently. “Talk to me.” A pause stretched between them. Rain filled it. Cassian exhaled slowly. “I used to think stories like this were cruel.” Adrian didn’t interrupt. “They always survive the pain. Always get an ending,” Cassian continued. “Real life doesn’t guarantee that.” Adrian shifted, turning fully now to face him. “Not everything survives,” Cassian admitted quietly. “Not in my world.”
