" I guessed I should shake her awake again. But even after trying CPR, Erin was still peacefully deceased, so I resorted to the one method I knew would work. After an internal struggle, I sighed and nuzzled Erin's cheek. She leaped up from the ground and did a flip. "Hell yes! I survived for one more day!" Alive or dead, she was still a lovely girl. I truly understood her. … After I left the classroom earlier, Erin went to the wrecked car. She stared at her body for a long time before recalling all the past.

Following her kidnapping by the family members who held her responsible for the deaths of parents, siblings, and cousins, one, lone survivor would finish the job. Khalil would get the revenge he'd always wanted and Mark would have one loose end tied up. There was still the matter of that email to deal with, but Mark could handle that. There were ways. First, Erin. It always came down to her. He'd misjudged her the first time around and suffered from that mistake. Once she was out of the way, it would all fall into place.

The hunt for me started all the back in middle school, and at that time, Erin and I had been damn near inseparable from each other as we learned when we were living with Liz in her mansion on the mountsides of Flagstaff. Early in my life, my mother Carrie, said that she had been abandoned by her partner, when they learned they were having me, the only girl that had been born into a world of darkness and secrets. Erin, her body still trembling from the night's events, limped through the darkness, her footsteps heavy as she marched toward her aunt's house. The wound in her hand, a burning, throbbing ache, was a constant reminder of the danger that lay behind her. But as she approached her aunt Kayla's house, the darkness of the night lifted, the first rays of dawn filtering through the trees and illuminating the path ahead of her. Erin, her body battered and bruised, walked through the final stretch of the path, her eyes fixed on the small, plain, and simple house that sat nestled in a small clearing ahead of her.

I bent to pick up on the floor the blanket she kicked off the bed to place it over her, but I changed my mind. Holding the blanket, I sank onto the bed, feeling it sag on my weight. My eyes studied Erin. She was calm now. Suddenly, the smell of lavender wafted through my nostrils. Eric instantly perked up. He cried out, “Mate!” I shut him down. “Our mate is hurt,” I told him before my gaze darted back to Erin’s sleeping form on the bed. She looked so peaceful, young, and innocent. I could not imagine who would hurt her. But I would hazard a guess that it was her family. There was no doubt about it. I have seen how his father almost killed her. If he succeeded, she would have been dead

“I survived being hunted. I survived being torn apart and left to die. Forgive me if I don’t have the energy to comfort you because you feel awkward now.” His eyes widened. The table around us had gone silent. I stood, even though my legs trembled. Eric rose with me instantly, hand steady at my waist. “I thanked you,” I continued. “That’s more than enough.” Cain opened his mouth, then closed it. I turned away. Eric guided me back down gently, tucking me against his side again, protective without being possessive. Hannah let out a slow breath. “Well,” she said. “That was… enlightening.”

Pulling the book off the shelf I walk back over to my desk sitting down and flipping it open. “ Is there something wrong, pup?” Erik asked kneeling down next to my chair “ this book.” I mumbled flipping pages “ Where did you get that?” Hunter blurted out with his eyes wide. “ So you know what this is?” I gasped feeling a gush releaf wash over me that I was right. “ Yes, Madam Briella. Where did you get it?” He asked again stepping closer “Whats wrong with you?” Erik asked standing up straight now on alert with how Hunter is acting
