Damon walks beside me, guiding me with an unspoken rhythm, one hand grazing my back when I veer slightly. My heel catches on a cable running along the floor, and I stumble.
Again, his arm shoots out, catching my waist.
He doesn’t let go this time.
“Watch your step,” he mutters.
I catch my balance and pull away. “I’m fine.”
His gaze holds mine for a second too long. Then he nods and keeps walking.
We pass more doors, more screens. The tension’s building in my chest, tight and familiar. I don’t like being somewhere that knows how to disappear people.
