It was closing time at P**e's café; a quaint and humble space large enough to comfortably accommodate twenty-five seated customers and five more at the waitress' bar. Leather booths lined the front wall, and the large glass windows were decorated with orange, red, yellow and brown maple leaf stickers. The neon open sign which faced the street soon switched to Closing Soon. The usual strong scent of freshly grounded coffee beans had faded in the atmosphere, and blended perfectly with the soft aroma of the last baked sweets left in the store that day; vanilla with a hint of dark roast.

MAXINE I stopped in front of the cafe and read the sign. It was Howl's Cafe. I had managed to get a hold of Mark and convinced him to see me. It had taken a lot to make him come here today. I hoped he was here. As I pushed the door open and walked in, the scent of cinnamon and roasted beans filled my lungs. The bell at the top of the door rang, signaling my entry. My eyes scanned the small crowd in the interior and landed on Mark who was hunched over a steaming mug of coffee. I walked over to him and slid into the worn leather booth across from him.

In my mind I was fighting over a thousand thoughts. My eyes scanned around the place as I walked in. Bright walked to some corner place and took a seat as his eyes lingered on mine. I smiled at him looking at my surroundings. The floor was wood as well as the walls and tables. There were glass racks beautifully designed and on them there were colorful sweets and desserts. Most of all there was a fresh aroma lingering in the place which smelt like fresh cookies and cream. I walked around the counter place reaching to the back of the café, and opened the door which said 'staff only'. Just as the door opened a strong freshly baked pastry smell hit my nose. It was so mouthwatering.
