I can show up at any time,” Vale replied in a playful arrogant tone. “Indeed, like a ghost,” Helena sneered, and then asked, “Why are you here at this time of night?”

“I need help.” Maeven’s smile widened. “You don’t need help. You need a price.” Maeven’s gaze dropped to Sable’s wrist—not the sleeve, the skin beneath it—as if she could see heat. “Oh, that’s pretty,” Maeven murmured. “That’s very pretty.” Sable took a wary step back. “Explain it.” Maeven descended the porch slowly, charms clinking soft as whispers. She inhaled, delighted. “A widow-bond,” she said, savoring the words. “A mate mark after death. A bond that should die but doesn’t.”

They walked hand in hand till he was handed the mic and asked to climb on stage. Sweet was about to get on stage but took a step back, Seline was about to ask why when he walked up to her and whisper only to her hearing “my drug”. His words send a shiver down her spine leaving tingles on the skin of her neck.
