I couldn't tell where my shaking stopped and theirs began. He landed, tucking his wings in tight to his body, his tail swinging around and settling in front of his forelegs. He had talons on his tail too. Three to be exact, three deadly spikes. His roar shook the ground, and we cringed. The pulsing waves of magic made it difficult to stand. I'd never felt magic, but something inborn, deep inside of me, knew it for what it was. I looked sideways at Chersa. Her head tipped downward, tears streaming from her eyes.

He suddenly squeezed his face and I guess he must have noticed the tears I was trying so hard to hold back. He suddenly caressed my cheeks and I slapped them off. I suddenly began crying out loudly even though I knew this wasn't supposed to lead to tears. I just wanted to reduce the load on my chest. "Oh my goodness! Babe, what's happening? Who is making you cry? Talk to me, you have been acting weird since last night and now, you're crying. Baby, please talk to me, you're scaring me. Seeing tears in your eyes brings so much sadness to my heart." Tyler said worriedly as he tried to grab my hands, but I slapped them away.

The trial took a long time to go through everything, close to three months, but it was worth it in the end. "That's not possible," Shelly whispers and I see her hands begin to shake. They shake so hard that the pen she was holding falls to the floor beneath her desk. She turns in her chair to grab the waste basket next to her desk and begins vomiting. I put Layla down and walk behind the desk and begin rubbing Shelly's back. She is trembling in fear and sorrow.

"Is the human bullying the big, bad demon?" Thail laughs in dark amusement, smirking at me. "You know that I could easily pin you down underneath me? Don't test my patience by teasing me, Talia," his tail circles around my leg. "I'm bigger than you, and I have something you don't—a tail!" I snort when he tickles the inside of my thigh. The idiot has learned where I'm ticklish, and I shoot off his chest like a bullet. "Oh my god, stop that!" I swat away his tail and brush invisible dust from my legs, hoping to make them stop tingling. "Gah... It tickles me too much when you do that! It's still tickling!"

When a bug crawls through the opening of his tight fist, catching his attention, he throws all the rocks to the ground at once and shakes his hands, screaming, 'Iss a buggy! Lily smiles at him, before looking down to see the water bug crawling away. Once Ty is over the scare of the bug, he realizes that he lost his rock collection and begins to whimper. Wanting to cut off the tears before they can even begin to flow, Lily whispers quietly in his ear, “Fancy a dip in the water?” “I wanna swim.” The toddler tells her with a nod, his tears drying up just like that. Oh, to be three years old and so easily able to move on from pain. Lily envies the child that.

Not to her. I swallowed hard. “I’m sorry, Talia. I’m so sorry.” Her eyes filled with tears, but she didn’t cry out loud. She just stood there, trembling, and for a second I thought she looked more like Selene than like a frightened child. Holding it all in. Burying it deep. When she finally turned and walked back toward the room she shared with Kael, I stayed there on my knees, shaking. I wanted to chase after her. I wanted to grab them both and run until my lungs burst. But my feet wouldn’t move.

As soon as he finished speaking, Tigger dropped the iPad and ran in circles around Nicole’s feet, wagging its tail. “Mama, carry me…” Nicole smiled and picked Tigger up. She glanced at the defeated Kai. Her eyes curved in a smile. “It’s not that I want to take advantage of you…”

Cailen frowned at the ground as he felt the familiar sting in his eyes as tears started to form. What was normal? Talking about baseball, wanting a fancy new toy car for your birthday, wanting to play in the mud and get dirty? Cailen couldn't be that. That's not who he is. Should he just change himself?
