His thumb pressed against the pulse point under my jaw, feeling the frantic skip of my heart. "I am keeping what I paid for," he growled. "I spent three years playing the 'nice' stepfather. I listened to your mother’s drunken stories. I sat through your school plays. I watched you bring home boys who weren't fit to wash your car. I did it all because I knew that one day, the debt would come due. And I am a man who always collects." He leaned in, his lips brushing against my ear. The sensation sent a traitorous jolt of electricity through my body. I hated myself for the way my breath hitched.

I scoffed. “No, stepfather,” he corrected. “I'll be getting married to your mom soon.” “I hate you.” And I meant it with every fibre of my being. “No, you don't,” he leaned closer. “You don't hate me, Sabrina.” “Proving to you that you don't hate me.” He rubbed his nose against my neck and I bit down on my bottom lip. “What are you doing? Mom's in the other room.” I whispered. His hand dropped to my hips while the other caressed the back of my neck.

It looked like something from a storybook. "Welcome home!" A deep voice called out. A tall man stepped off the porch, and Lily recognized him from the wedding photos. Alpha Kane, soon to be her stepfather, had graying black hair and kind eyes. He looked strong and important, the way alphas were supposed to look. Mom jumped out of the truck and ran into his arms. They kissed, and Lily looked away, her cheeks warming. Luna woke up and pressed her cold nose against Lily's neck. "I know," Lily whispered, scratching behind Luna's ears. "We'll be okay. We have to be."

She had not been forgettable. He just wished she had been. The house was completely silent. She lay still and listened. And then she heard footsteps in the hallway — slow, measured. They stopped outside her door. The silence had a specific texture — the kind that happened when someone was standing very still on the other side of a door. Not knocking. Not leaving. She did not breathe. The footsteps stood there for a long moment — long enough to be deliberate. Then they moved on. She exhaled. Closed her eyes. Tomorrow he would be her stepfather. And she would be absolutely fine.

That was the first time I felt so calm and relaxed in two years since my mother died. We fell in love at first sight. I told him about my life and he told me his secret. He offered to run away with me but I denied. I knew that I can't run away from my stepfather. He will do anything to find me. He was also a vampire hunter and so I was more worried about Eric than for myself. I went back home. My stepfather was furious; he punished me for running away from home. Then, I saw Barry. He was the new labor at my farm. He didn't know anything about my stepfather so, I made a plan.

“ You called for me, “ I whispered when I finally found my voice . My step dad dropped the last book that he was working on and raised up his head and looked at me . This was the first time that I would notice his features closely . I had never been this close to this man , his brown eyes and the way he looked was one of the best thing that’s I had ever thought of , he looked too good to be true . “ I think I will let the both of you have your time and your conversation “ my mom said as she stood up from the chair that she was seating . “ I will see you later “ mom told me as she walked out . When she got out , the next thing I heard was a loud bang on the door . This time I was all alone in

I know exactly what he's about to do, but I don't have the wherewithal to do anything but wait for his touch. His lips press into mine, and as much as I'm weirded out by Daddy's lust for me, my body doesn't have that hesitation. All that libido I'd been agonizing over for weeks comes to the forefront, my body flush with all sorts of chemicals and arousal, like a burst of unbridled energy. “Daddy,” I say. “What are you doing? You're my stepfather.” He grips the back of my hair, lightly tugging on it to steady my head as he looks deep into my eyes, towering over me. “Not anymore, girl. I'm the man who's going to take care of you.”

If I fail to put my faith in him now, we will have nothing. Heart beating wildly, I reach out to him, our fingers brushing, his a warm flare of warmth and strength. Before he can take me in his arms, an arm curls around my waist and drags me backward against a hard chest. I feel cold metal jammed up against my temple. It takes me a moment to realize that my stepfather has now captured me in his forceful grip and is holding a gun to my head.

I had spent years pretending I didn’t hear the things I wasn’t supposed to. My mother had left me behind when I was barely sixteen, taking my stepfather’s money and vanishing without a trace. She’d taken his money and disappeared, leaving me behind in a house that never felt like home. He’d never hurt me, but he had never cared either. I was just an inconvenience. I had always known my stepfather was a man with more money than morals. But if Alexander knew him, if they were connected in some way, then what the hell did that make him?

He'd left. I stood there, frozen, the reality sinking in like a stone in my chest. He had left and he wasn't coming back. I'd finally done it, I had pushed too far, crossed the line, and now he was gone. I went back to my room and locked the door. The shame hit me first. What have I done? He was my stepfather and he was forty years old. He is married to my mother. And I'd dropped to my knees and…… I pressed the heels of my palms against my eyes, trying to block it out. But I couldn't. I could still feel him in my mouth. I could still hear the wrecked sound of his voice. "Best I've ever had."
