I shifted my gaze back to my drink. “Oh, he is definitely staring at you,” Vanessa giggled, clearly giving googly eyes to blondie over there. “Just go kiss him,” I joked, and she laughed, hiding her snort. “What? You're sweating over a guy just a few feet away. At least ask for his number.” “Is that okay?” “Meaning?” “I mean, since I’m new to the city, I’m supposed to be careful, right? I’m supposed to not talk to strangers and focus on you…”

It's almost as if he's ordering me. I might be riding in a train of insanity, because tell me why, in the next few minutes, I'm sharing drinks with a stranger, ranting about my scornful ex. Right, I tell myself he's a stranger. Is there anything wrong with that? We'll never meet again. Besides, isn't that what people normally do at bars? Normal people would rant to bartenders, but well, okay. The good thing about my stranger is that he's a good listener. He doesn't give me the sympathetic look and maybe it's because I don't get to see his face fully.

“Don’t worry, Natasha. It’s over now. Just remember, be cautious around strangers. You never know who they truly are.” Natasha stammers, struggling to find her words, but eventually manages to reply, expressing her gratitude and the depth of her newfound trust in me. We share a moment of understanding and support, knowing that we must remain vigilant in a world where danger can lurk behind even the most seemingly innocent faces.

With an amused shake of my head, I finally answered, “I mean, thanks for the offer, but you, uh, you already have an Uber coming, bud. I’d really hate to make them waste a trip.” “But riding around with strangers creeps me out,” he whined before batting his eyelashes at me pathetically. “What if they take one look at all this…” He waved a hand down his body. “And decide to keep me? Next thing I know, I’ll find myself stuck in the bottom of some pit in their basement while they lower a basket of lotion down for me to keep my skin soft.” I laughed. I don't want to improvise. "I don't know. I actually don't know what to ask. I told you, I'm not into talking to strangers. It just felt like you're quite little bit trustworthy so yeah. I talked to you. So, I think it'll be good anything that you'll share to me. After all, I don't feel comfortable asking people what I want to know of them. It sounds invasion of privacy to me." I even bowed and looked really uncomfortable saying the words I released so that I can look convincing enough.

As he was about to pay, I couldn't resist the temptation to strike up a conversation. I must admit that the thought of talking to him made me nervous. I mean, how could I possibly approach a complete stranger and strike up a conversation about his wife's lingerie preferences without sounding creepy? So, I decided to play it cool and observe him from a distance. I couldn't help but notice how meticulously he went through each lingerie piece, examining every lace detail, and checking the size charts. It was clear that he wanted to make sure his wife would be happy with the gift.

I paused which stretched too long. I forced a small smile. “Occupational hazard, I guess.” But he didn’t smile back. Instead he leaned forward slightly. “Strange." He murmured. My pulse quickened. “What is so strange in it ? Many people do it .” “ I don’t know why it feels… familiar. Like I have seen it before .” The word hit harder than it should have. I tightened my grip on the cup. “Maybe you’ve seen it somewhere,” I said lightly. “People have habits.”

I smile at her, hoping I sound like I am talking from my point of view and not that I know the truth about her. “It is strange, I forget that so many others around me are into this whole thing.” I laugh at her response. “You mean the lifestyle? It is strange I agree we all do it, we forget about others in the lifestyle as we are in our own in a sense.” She nods understanding, I am not too comfortable with this conversation, would she be talking to a total stranger like this right now? Clearly, she would, or is it just she feels safe around me, like before?

“Hey, the rules said no climbing on the fences.” As I say the words, she climbs down with an apologetic smile, then reaches through the fence to pet the pony's face. “Kids, huh? Not good at following rules, are they?” I jolt and glance up at the stranger talking with me. It's the man who’d been going out of his way to smile at me. I offer a weak smile before heading to Azura's side. “Who is that man?” Azura asks. “I have no idea, but we don’t talk to strangers, right?” I might as well use this as a learning opportunity to remind her of the dangers other people can pose on our lives.
