Hundreds of zombies appeared in front of them.

With a feral roar, Dan lunged forward and bit straight into her neck. “Get off me, you lunatic! Get off!” Callie screamed in terror. She fired her gun wildly, but she couldn’t hit Dan, who was clinging tightly to her body. Just like that, the two of them struggled and tore at each other. The smell of blood and the screams quickly attracted even more zombies outside. Rotting hands began reaching in to grab their ankles and legs, slowly dragging the pair, who were still biting and clawing at each other, toward the edge of the balcony.

The first zombie broke through the defenses, its rotting fingers grabbing the edge of the deck as it climbed up! "Ah!" Screams erupted instantly. The zombie was bloated. Its eyes hung on its cheeks as it lunged straight at me. "Clarissa!" Hans yelled, immediately raising his gun and aiming at the zombie in front of me. The next second, he was immediately drawn to Winnie's scream. "Hans! I'm scared!" He hesitated for a second before immediately turning his gun toward the zombies near Winnie. My heart sank to the bottom of my stomach.

It was surrounded by those 'walkers', stumbling around like they were in a trance. "What are they?" He breathed out, staring in disbelief. He chugged some water, letting out a sigh of hydrated relief. "They call them walkers." She pointed the screen down slightly to allow him to see easier and switched to the website she was reading. "There's information on them, finally." As Adam read, she watched his expression change from confused to terrified. "This is like an actual zombie movie." He spluttered, barely able to get his words out. Behind them, a stirring caught their attention.

Either way, I fell hard for him, even if he scared me. When I was sixteen, everything changed. The entire world changed because we realized we weren’t alone. I’m not talking about aliens. Nope, crazy as it sounds, I’m talking about Zombies. Not the slow, dumb kind. It turns out zombies are fast, strong, intelligent, and vicious. Not only do they eat brains, but they will eat human flesh if brains are available. We didn’t get zombies from a virus, a vaccine, or any of the normal things in the books, movies, or TV shows. It turns out zombies come from a mutated human gene that activates after death. This mutated gene is inherited by one's father if he carries the mutation.

“Fall back! Everybody fall back!” Rachel and Timothy turned, their eyes widening as a young zombie—a girl in a tattered engineering lab uniform—slipped through the chaos. She lunged at a soldier, dragging him to the ground as he screamed. Her teeth sank into his neck, the sickening sound of flesh tearing audible even over the gunfire. Timothy kept filming, unable to look away. The soldier’s comrades shot the girl, but it was too late. The man convulsed, his body twitching unnaturally before his eyes snapped open. Clouded and lifeless, he rose—a zombie now.

Tobe screams and Ryder brings his rifle up. He pulls the trigger, and a zombie drops, but another quickly takes his place. There are dozens of them, and the four of us are no match, especially since I barely know how to shoot, and Tobe still doesn't have a weapon.
