The silence pressed against me until it felt like it might shatter me completely. I opened my laptop. The cursor blinked on a blank page like a heartbeat, steady and unrelenting. Subject: Resignation Letter To: Mr. Andrew Sterling Sir, Thank you for the opportunity to work at Sterling Holdings. Due to recent events, I believe it is best for both of us if I resign from my position, effective immediately. Respectfully, Lily Hart. My fingers trembled as I typed my name. The finality of it broke something in me. Before hitting send, I stared at the screen — remembering his voice, his rare smiles, his hand brushing mine that night at the club.
