Escape plans? When she finished, I took the letter, scanning the contents. My eyes widened. "Raven, Raven, Raven," I said, shaking my head. "You're not very subtle, are you?" Raven's face turned beet red. "What are you talking about?" "This," I said, holding up the letter. " 'My dearest Eric, come and rescue me from this monster. Bring guns and knives. Yours, Raven.'" Raven's face flamed red as anger flashed in those gorgeous emerald eyes. Her fists clenched so hard that her knuckles went wide. Had the chains been long enough, she would have likely thrown them around my neck and choked the life out of me.

My chest ached as I moved instinctively, down toward the lower wing where the healers worked. And of course, I found her there. Raven was still bent over one of the tables, sorting herbs by color and size, her fingers trembling slightly from fatigue. The lamplight caught in her hair, saturating the dark strands until she looked almost otherworldly. Even while physically exhausted, Raven possesed a charm that drew the eye and refused to let go. “You don't always have to come here looking for me,” she said without looking up from the herbs. I couldn't stop a smile from spreading across my face as I moved closer.

RAFE After the kids left for school, I waited as Raven got herself ready for the day. I sit on the edge of our bed as she gets dressed and I take in her every movement. The way her back arches when she bends to pull her pants on. The way she tilts her neck exposes our mate mark as she gathers her hair up in a ponytail. Just then, Elvis moved, and he stepped aside, opening the path for Raven. “Let’s go home, Wife,” Raven walked to me. “No, I won’t go anywhere with you,” I said firmly. My body shook. Before I could react, I was lifted into the air, and then I realised he had picked me up in his arms.

You steal our happiness and rock the very foundation of our home. You are able to do this because Raven is my happy. She is the foundation of my home. The strength. The pillar that holds up and supports me. The beacon that lights up my home and path when darker times have hit in the past. She is my home. You make us have to pause life for a while, something that we have never done. You make us live with real, crippling fear. I hate you so much for doing that.
