Against All Odds
An Alpha did not falter when his family watched him.
Across the ruin, Beta Kael appeared first, his blade dripping black ichor, his wolf eyes gleaming wild. His chest heaved, his armor torn, but when he saw Archer in my hold, something broke loose in him. He staggered once, then dropped to his knees in the dirt, head bowed, a warrior's surrender to hope.
"Alpha," he rasped, voice rough with exhaustion and awe. "The heir..."
Archer stirred at the sound, his little fingers tightening on Zeina's dress. I shifted my hand to cradle the back of his head, protective, steady. "The heir stands," I said, my voice carrying, iron-hard, into the stillness. "And he is ours."
