She paused, thinking. Then her face lit up. “Light,” she replied. At once, a soft glow filled the room, chasing away the shadows. In awe, Amber pushed the door fully open. What she saw made her gasp. It was a fairly large chamber, and at its center lay a fish-shaped, aquamarine-colored pool. It looked almost natural, like it had been carved out of living rock. The water shimmered under the new light, lending the space an underwater ambiance.

The name written boldly — The Amber Room. Something made her hesitate. Her foot found the brake. She sat there for a moment in the middle of the quiet road. Then she reversed back and turned carefully into the side street beside it. She parked just a short distance inside. Close enough to see the corner from where she sat. She looked at the door for a moment. She had never been here before. That was exactly why she chose it. She went inside. She was not a drinker. A glass of wine at dinner sometimes. Something small at events. That was normally it for her.

I shook my head. The woman didn’t look surprised. She handed me a small black card. “Your name is Amber tonight. Don’t use your real one. Don’t give out details. No phones, no photos. Stick to the gold floor. Don’t let anyone take you to the red rooms unless you say yes. And never drink anything you didn’t see poured. Got it?” I nodded, even though I was still stuck on red rooms and what the hell that meant. “She’s cute,” the woman muttered, then disappeared.

Maybe she should head back. If Rome was whining that means that he wasn't in any fatal condition. Amber turned around to leave. "Are you going to stand outside all night?" Her shoulders stiffened at Rome's words. She turned back with a groan and entered Rome's room. His room was enormous with a king-size bed and a large dressing table with different ointments placed on it in a precise order that Rome uses for his skincare. Rome's home was the largest house on Amber's territory.

She wasn't sure if they really were using actual diamonds and gemstones; everything seemed to be sparkling.

Every detail whispered luxury and authority. "Well don't just stand there gawking, get cleaning!" Amber's shrill voice broke the hushed aura. "Mother will inspect shortly."
