The spy deflected it with a wave of a hand, their cloak billowing as if the shadows themselves obeyed them.
“Impossible,” Fenrir muttered under his breath. “They should not be this strong.”
The spy’s face was finally revealed, and my breath caught in my throat. It was one of our own—a seasoned mage from the High Council, someone we had trained alongside, someone I had trusted. The betrayal cut deeper than any blade could.
“You,” Marcus growled, his hands tightening around his sword. “Why?”
The mage smiled coldly, a glint of madness in their eyes. “Because the seals are too dangerous, and she… she will not be contained. I serve the one who will wield the awakening, not the one who binds it.”
