Something flickered there, something raw that made my chest tighten.
But then it was gone. His walls slammed back up. He turned abruptly and kept walking, faster than before.
I hurried after him, still buzzing with a strange mix of smugness and irritation. “Fine. Let’s say I do this ridiculous couples day thing. What exactly am I supposed to come up with? A candlelit dinner in the break room? Heart-shaped memos? Speed dating by the photocopier?”
Anthony didn’t answer.
“Oooh, I know,” I continued, ignoring the daggers he was glaring at the wall. “We could set up a kissing booth. You can sit in it. Five dollars a smooch, all proceeds to charity.”
