I beg as I continue to cry out in pain. His hand rests on against my chest. "Welcome to hell, Heaven." He drives his hand through my chest so fast that I don't see it coming. His hand connects with my beating heart and the last thing I see is his wicked and cynical smile before he tears out my heart and finally kills me.

Using the last of my strength, I launched myself in front of her. The beast's claws tore through my chest. A white-hot agony exploded behind my eyes. But I wrapped my arms around the beast's head, pouring the last of my Alpha power directly into its brain. "JUST... DIE!" Golden energy tore the beast's head apart from the inside. The monster gave one last, guttural scream and collapsed. I fell with it, landing in a pool of my own blood. The wound in my chest was bleeding freely. My life was draining away.

The vendor glanced warily left and right, confirming no one was watching, before gesturing for the beastkin to approach. This was a wolfhound beastkin. He was tall and slender, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. When he stood, he blocked out the bar lights, which cast a shadow over me. Before I could react, the vendor yanked the crude collar around his neck, forcing him to his knees before removing the rusty muzzle.

“Go, Mirabel.” She pushed the door open and vanished into the shadows of the servant’s corridor. I stood in the middle of the room, clutching the book to my chest. I was alone again. But as I looked at the bite on my neck in the mirror, I realized that for the first time, the "beast" wasn't the thing I was most afraid of. It was the people who were supposed to love me and the fact that even if I survived pretending I wouldn't survive when it came to actually fulfilling my duties as a mate.

I asked the Beast. No, the voice growled, sounding faint and far away. They think they are poisoning a wolf. They don't realize they are trying to poison the ocean. Kaima... stop fighting the pain. Drink it. Drink it? I thought. It’s killing me! It’s only killing the part of you that is human, the Beast said. Let it. Let the human girl die. Only the Origin can survive this. I stopped fighting. I let the cold ice of the poison spread. I felt my heart stop. I felt my lungs go still.

It gives him a few seconds before the hounds decide attacking is their best move. They might have gained some newfound intelligence, but Beast is smart and has had years of practice. Our eyes carry bloodlust, our bodies made for killing. Beast's claws rake a wide path across one throat and chest. It's not a killing blow, but the hound lists to the side and the other jumps around him. It's almost like he's protecting the hurt creature. Beast lets out a growl that rumbles clear to our feet and charges head-on. We clash and the hound goes to the ground with Beast on top. We grab his neck within our crushing jaws and crunch bone. The other hound lands on top of us, his snapping jaws taking a bit

The hooded figures fall to their knees and keep their eyes on the trembling ground. I am going to die. This is how my life ends. An enormous muscular figure rises from the dark rift that formed from the cracks in the ground beside me. His black wings unfurled and sparkled like a black diamond. His chiseled features were borderline cruel, but his eyes…there was something familiar about his steely gray eyes before they glowed red. I was struck with a mix of emotions but fear surprisingly wasn't among them. I knew that I was going to die at the hands of The Beast, but yet I welcomed it. For reasons that I can't explain, my life suddenly felt meaningless. The Beast roared, “Offering accepted,” b

I cry as I force my body to crawl forward. His skin is as pale as theirs, so I know they sucked him dry, but I still have to check. If there is any way he is still alive, I have to try...I get inches from him, but just as my fingers reach for him, I am yanked up into a set of thick furry arms. "Stupid humans," a deep, gravely voice growls, and before I can even respond, the beast takes off. His long paws pummel the ground, and the forest zips past me. Motion sickness mixed with my grief turns my stomach, and I vomit instantly. He snarls as my puke hits his pelt, but he doesn't slow down.

The beast groans, inducing terror in me, wrecking my cool. Why does he seem so curious?

The beast then stopped on its track as it saw the man’s purple eyes glowing, although he wore a black mask, it did not hide the fact that the man is someone who could not be simply called handsome alone. “Lord Ci-” Slash Before the beast could even finish his words, three heads rolled on the ground, and its majestic body falling with a loud thud.
