As Caleb’s hand settled against my back once more and guided me toward the center dance floor, Nebula’s satisfied purring echoed through my mind like distant thunder. The world would end in less than a month. But tonight? Oakhaven belonged to me.

“I spill yours, and the bond breaks. The curse dies. Ryder will be mine. Tessa will fade. Balance restored.” Tears stung my eyes. “You’re insane.” Her expression softened suddenly, almost childlike. “Maybe. But you’ll save her. Isn’t that what good sisters do?” She stood, lifting the knife from the altar — its blade gleaming beneath the serpent moon. Somewhere deep in the woods, thunder rolled. Meanwhile — back at the clubhouse — I didn’t know that Tessa was already waking up. She’d been asleep on the couch, pale and restless, her breath shallow. Then her body jerked violently.

Morgan pointed at where Tessa was now facing. Tessa saw a teenage girl just like her. She had red veins all over her legs and arms. Her eyes were pure white. She was wearing a long white gown. "I don't understand. What is she?" Tessa asked. Mrs. Morgan turned Tessa's head back to me. "She's the first of your race and you're the last of your race. Like I said before, I want to make more though. But firstly, I'm gonna tell you what truly happened... How everything took place"

She smiled proudly. “And this time… be ready to help me win it again.” Tessy let out a quiet breath. There was no fear in her eyes, only determination. “Sorry to disappoint you,” she said calmly, “because you won’t be as lucky this time.” Jessica’s smile faded slightly. “We will see then,” she replied coldly. Tessy did not wait again. She turned and walked out. The next morning, Jessica came to work earlier than usual. The sky was still pale, and the office building was quiet.

When her eyes finally opened, they were no longer violet. They were hers. Soft, mossy green. “Tess?” I whispered, leaning in. She blinked slowly. Confused. Disoriented. Her lips parted, then closed again. Cassian moved cautiously closer, one hand glowing faintly with a healing charm. “She’s not entirely free yet. That kind of tethering leaves residue. Memory fractures. Guilt. She may not remember everything immediately.” But Tess’s voice cut through the hush. “I remember enough.” It was hoarse. Weak. But hers.

Behind me, I heard Selene say softly, “You should go after her.” And Cassian answer, after only the briefest silence, “Your leg comes first. I’ll explain to her later.” Later. Everything with him was always later. I kept walking. By the time I reached the outer steps, my phone was already in my hand. Tessa answered on the first ring. “I’m ready,” I said. There was a pause. Then she replied, “The witch is waiting.” I looked back only once. Through the long glass doors, I could still see Cassian with Selene, one hand at her arm, head bent as he led her away.

“Every story you’ve ever heard about the council war, about the rogues, about the fall of our kind, it all started with him. And it’s ending with me.” He stared at her, the air in the room suddenly colder. “You’re talking like he’s still alive.” “Alive is a word for bodies,” she said softly. “But some things don’t need breath to keep living. Some things stay in blood, in memory, in silence.” Kellan’s heart began to pound. He didn’t know if it was fear or pity. “Then what are you planning, Tessa?” She stepped closer to him, her movements calm but deliberate. “I’m planning to finish what he began. To end what your Alpha refuses to face. To remind them that power always has a price.”

“Did you leave something behind?” Tessa swallowed, her chest tightening. Was she leaving something? Oh yes, she was. Her heart. But she didn’t say that. Instead, she forced a smile and shook her head. “No, Dad. Let’s go.” As Alex sped off, Tessa sank into her seat, her gaze fixed on the villa until it disappeared from sight. A miserable smile tugged at her lips. It was truly over. Well… it had been amazing while it lasted. AUTHOR'S NOTE:

“Not interested…in the kids? Tessa, how can you even say that?” Her hand trembled around the phone. “Because it’s true. Don’t call me again.” With that, she ended the call, her chest heaving as though she had just leapt off a cliff. Bianca’s smile spread slowly, triumph curling in every corner of her mouth. “Well done. You see? That wasn’t so hard. You’ve just taken the first step toward reclaiming your power.” Tessa shoved her phone away, bile rising in her throat. The victory Bianca painted felt nothing like triumph. It felt like betrayal of herself, of her children, of the faint chance Ares’s voice had offered.

It was Tessa who was coming towards us. "You two took so long to come back and I wondered what happened," she says seeming relieved. "You came to feed him?" I asked She asks and I nod. "Need more?" She asks Mason and he walks towards her. "Yes, but I would rather suck Alex dry instead of touching you. You are carrying out baby and you need to be healthy," he said and bent to kiss her. I looked at them and thanked heavens for this gift. "Shall we go back?" Tessa asked after breaking the kiss and added, "the ritual is about to start."
