He was just about to signal them to stop and find shelter when a flash of something in the distance caught his attention, and he skidded the bike to a stop, pulling off his helmet. ‘Can you guys see that?’ He asked those around him, pointing to where something was catching the sunshine glittering in the distance. ‘Fuck yeah.’ Martin, the Leader of another MC club, said, and Nathan, another Leader, nodded to, looking around, he could see they all saw it, and it could only be one thing, Morningstar’s compound. All thought of the heat disappeared as they sped towards their destination, the bikes coming together in a formation ready for attack. His next signal sent some of the Bikers to surround

"I am choosing to end it." He stared at me for a long moment. Then pulled me into his arms. "You are going to give me a heart attack one of these days." "Probably. But at least it will be interesting." We left Chicago at dawn. All twenty bikers accounted for. Some wounded, none dead. Diane's operations destroyed. Message sent. On the drive back to Nevada, I dozed against Albert's shoulder, exhausted. "Eva," he said quietly. "You know she is not going to honor that deal, right? She will come back."

This feels like I'd become the prey somehow without being aware that I was being hunted. I thought back now to where I went wrong. I should've done something when those kids first disappeared from the MC club. I shouldn't have taken it for granted that this guy is what he seemed on the surface. There had to be something else, someone else, behind him. I'd looked into the bikers who'd joined him, well, as much as I could anyway, and the only thing I found was a businessman and a guy who runs his own biker crew a few states away. His face seems vaguely familiar, and I can't shake the suspicion that he might be the one responsible for my father's recent murder. The majority of the girls are already seated behind the bikers on their heavy and superbikes. Only two of the bikers are standing without their backpacks. Heather quickly approaches the man wearing a balaclava, and I freeze in my spot, feeling a sudden hitch in my breath as I realize the biker in the balaclava is motioning for me to come over to him.

Some low hisses escape their lips. "This is so fucked up, man," I hear one biker snarl. "She was such a sweet girl…" My breathing turns shallow, and I lean in closer to him. I grab the sleeve of the biker, and he turns sharply, his eyes hard. I doubt he recognizes me. "What?" he snaps before I can say a word. I swallow, my throat feeling like sandpaper. "W-what happened?" There is a pause. A heavy one. The kind that stretches forever. Then he looks back at me, face cold, voice flat. "Daisy is dead."

I revved the engine and tore out of there, the night air whipping past as I pushed the bike harder past the speed limit on the highway. My relationship with Linda wasn't always as complicated as it was now. She was my maternal aunt. The tough-as-nails woman who’d dragged my dad into the biker life years ago, introducing him to the gang that handed out loans like candy. When the debt came due and they couldn’t pay, the lenders wanted collateral...and by collateral they meant us kids—Luca and me.

He was teaching him a lesson. Someone near me whispered, “He’s mad but not losing it. That’s worse.” I couldn’t look away. My heart was going crazy. I wasn’t scared of Ryder exactly. I was scared of how much I wanted to run to him and also how much I didn’t recognize him at that moment. When it ended, the biker was on the ground, bleeding but breathing. Ryder wiped his hand on a towel, dropped it, and said in that steady, low voice, “Next time you hit someone on the road again, you’re done. No bike. No second chances.”
