Clearly, someone was there often to maintain it. She did not forget to bring Dash along. She forced him to kneel and slammed his head on the ground repeatedly. "You owe him this!" Dash cried uncontrollably. In the rain-soaked night, the scene felt eerie and distorted. I stood in the distance watching the entire scene unfold. Somehow, Gemma seemed to sense where I was. She turned around and spotted me, gently calling me over. Dash's head had split open. Blood was streaming down his face. Gemma stood a short distance away, rain running down her face.

They reached a landing, a metal walkway carved into ice so clear it glowed pale blue, reflecting their shadows in fractured shards. The deeper hum started here. A pulse. A heartbeat. Not human. Not mechanical. Something in between. Natasha froze. “The Echo.” The air vibrated, low, resonant, ancient. Amara whispered inside her, breathless. It knows we’re coming. Lucas stepped in front of Natasha, protective instincts blazing through every line of his body. “Stay close to me. Whatever happens.” She nodded. A thunderous explosion echoed above, the ice shook under their feet.

The muffled, heavy thud of the club music behind the metal doors, the groans of the four men bleeding out on the wet pavement, the quiet drip of rain falling off the brick walls—it all died away. Black remained at the edges of his eyes, waiting. Behind us Varen recovered and ordered what was left of his group forward. The foundation Echo, collar still sparking, began to follow at a slower but relentless pace. We had not broken free of the facility’s deepest systems. We had only gone further into the parts of it that had been built to own him. And the dark ahead still carried one more sound lower, older, and rising from somewhere that felt like the original core of the entire net. Kael’s hand tightened on mine. The failsafe surged in recognition once more. The new sound grew clearer.

The air was still cold, the temperature having dropped significantly due to the Echo Wraith. The Echo Wraith is a haunting presence within the Cavern of Eternal Echoes, a place known for its labyrinthine complexity and the disturbing resonance of every sound. It glides silently through the caverns, leaving behind a trail of maddening echoes. These echoes are warped, amplified distortions that play on the deepest insecurities and fears of those who hear them. They take on the voices of the damned, whispering hidden regrets and unconfessed sins, often blending them with a cacophony of falsehoods to disorient and unsettle their victims.

“I didn’t come to touch him, Savannah. I came to end what should never have begun.” He held up the black drive. Its surface seemed to swallow the light, matte but alive, as though it absorbed the air around it. “This is Echo’s Override Kill Code. Extracted from their deepest archives, sealed since the first uprising. It wasn’t meant to be used—not unless Echo infected the core grid beyond control. Now look.” He gestured toward the speakers, where Lucien’s childlike voice still unfurled into infinite corridors. Rhett stepped forward, disbelief darkening his brow. “That thing—”

With my head aching, I decided to stand up and get my cigarette and lighter at the mini table beside the bed and light the cigarette. “Good morning”, Echo greeted with a smile. Adrian's POV My head buzzed. I looked up sharply at Marissa Cole, who had been waiting outside the studio for me to get off work. No wonder the student's voice had sounded familiar. I had heard it on her phone before. The producer shot to his feet in panic and urged me through my earpiece to keep talking. Marissa's eyes darkened. Holding her phone, she turned and walked away. I took a deep breath and forced out a smile. I held myself together and finished the closing remarks, ending right at the five-minute mark.

Thirty meters while Elias stood connected to the core and Echo used every second to throw everything it had learned at all three of them. They moved. The first trap came between the second and third server rows. The servers dissolved. She was in her apartment… the threadbare rug, the blue monitor light, the rain on the windows, all of it exact and perfect and wrong because Jax and Lena were there too, which had never happened, which Echo had invented specifically because it knew that the apartment was where she was most herself and most alone and that combining those two things with the people she had let closest would hit harder than any boardroom fantasy.
