“Your Majesty,” the older soldier rasped, head bowed as I felt the rage roll off his voice, “it is a message.”
Princess Loretta rose gracefully from her seat like she was going to inspect a new painting. She strolled over, leaned down, sniffed once, then dipped two fingers into the warm blood. She rubbed it between her thumb and forefinger, brought it to her nose again.
“Hmm,” she said, calm as if she were commenting on the vintage of wine. “They fought until their last breath.”
