Mated to Three Alphas
A hidden door, sealed into the wall.
I braced my shoulder and pushed. Stone grated against stone, groaning open to reveal a stairwell that plunged into blackness.
The stench hit me first. Copper. Old blood.
I descended slowly, each step heavy, each breath sharper than the last. The air thickened with the smell of death and rot, but beneath it was something worse—a hum, faint but steady, like the beat of a second heart buried deep beneath the earth.
When I reached the bottom, my torchlight fell upon a chamber carved from bedrock. Tables lined the walls, littered with glass vials, scraps of parchment, bones that still glistened. And journals. Dozens of them, stacked like sacred texts.
