The academy library was the one place Kael had felt genuinely safe since arriving. It was large, quiet, and full of people who were too absorbed in their own reading to pay attention to anyone else. The shelves ran three floors high along the outer walls, connected by narrow wooden staircases and thin walkways with iron railings. The lower floor had long reading tables lit by steady mana lamps.
