I had encountered so many struggles and setbacks, so many witches and humans alike in the course of studying the magical text for harnessing its magic. Martin's gaze shifted between me and the book beside him, its pages now devoid of the once potent words that had guided my journey. Without hesitation, I blinked at the parchment, and it ignited into flames, the flickering fire consuming the last remnants of its usefulness. "Why did you burn it?" Martin protested, his voice tinged with disbelief. "It serves me no longer," I replied coolly, my words laced with conviction. “I bet it could have been useful to another,” Martins persisted.

A surge goes through my body and I throw myself before the fire place, "Darius, no! wh-why, why did you throw the book into the fire!?" I watch helplessly as the book begins to burn. Taking a hasty move I stick my hand into the flames, trying to grab the book but the heat of the fire consumes my hands and I hiss in pain. Darius grabs onto me, hauling me away from the fire and into his arms. "Fuck, Audrey. What is wrong with you!? Why did you put your hand into the fire, do you not consider you will get burnt!?" My gaze is still fixated on the book as it chips away, the familiar pages folding in burns.

And once we were done, and I pulled her into my arms as I waited for her to rest so I could go for another round, I felt my father nudging my mindlink. ‘Rowan…’ I groaned internally. I didn’t want anyone to disturb my time with my mate, but since he was mindlinking me just after we had our talk, I figured it could be something serious. So I answered, ‘Yes, Dad.’ ‘I had called my friends to check for that book like we discussed, and they just got back to me,’ he said. ‘Well, the same part of the book was also burnt in each book. And I’m guessing it’s the same with the books in other packs.’
