And yet… every time I closed my eyes, I saw the woman from last night — her familiar eyes, her sorrowful smile, the way her voice carried warmth and grief all at once.
We walked down the long hall, Fenrir and I, the silence between us heavier than before.
When we reached the courtyard, he stopped suddenly and turned to face me.
“You should have told me sooner about the book,” he said quietly.
“I didn’t know what it was,” I said honestly. “I thought it was just some ancient text.”
He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “That’s the problem. Nothing here is just what it seems.”
I frowned. “Then what am I supposed to do?”
