We all surrounded the burning fire, silence creeping into the atmosphere hanging above our heads. "I will definitely miss the real world and being alive." I voice out staring at the burning fire, my eyesight a little bit cloudy. "Yeah. I definitely will." Daniel echoes after me. I breathe in and out then threw the book into the fire. Sounds of someone clapping cut through the solemn silence that was upon us. I looked around in horror searching for the hands that produced the clap. "Did y'all really think I would just vaporize into non existent once the book is burnt??" A horror-ish laughter followed the question revealing the hands responsible for the clap, The evil one.

I’d have gladly walked into its yawning gullet at that moment. “It’s a very interesting book, Doon,” continued Maurice. “It’s the story of Muad’Dib, the mouse that hides from the sun and travels in the cool night.” “Sounds a bit boring,” said Flossie. “Do you think we could delay this week’s Book Club until we get out of this mess?” I requested in my most reasonable voice. Stay calm, wait for first light, and then make our way back to the lake, possibly to drown myself and get it all over with. “Just keep quiet and don’t make any sudden movements.”

“You like books.” “You stole a stranger’s book.” He didn’t look ashamed. “They were not reading it, it was just laying around” I blinked. “So you took it?” “Yes.” “Because they were not reading it?” “Yes.” I couldn’t help it. A laugh slipped out before I could stop it. Mikhail glanced at me like he didn’t know what to do with the sound, then at the book like he wasn’t sure if he’d done something wrong. “It’s okay,” I said. “I appreciate the felony.”

I fixed my gaze on the man who had the answers to all of my questions. “Where are we going?” he didn’t answer and went back to the book he was reading, ‘The Book Thief’ certainly not what I expect someone like him to read. Knowing it is useless to ask him, I leaned back into the comfortable chair which is very unlikely in a normal plane. “Where are all the other passengers?” I asked him again when he didn’t answer I pulled the book from his hand that sure got me the attention I was seeking.

“Sure thing, sweetie. I’ll bring it right up.” “Thanks Etsu.” “No problem, kiddo. And the tarts on the house.” As Etsu walked over to serve the other guy Caitlynn reached into her bag and pulled out her book. For today it was The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. She turned to her bookmark, slipped it out and began reading from page 193. Her gaze swept across the pages, dark brown eyes drinking in every word in the tale told by Death. She loved this book because the characters intrigued her, most specifically the main protagonist, Liesel.
