I looked like a monster, a ghost rising from the grave. My inner wolf didn't whine or cry for our lost family. She paced in the shadows of my mind, baring her fangs, her fur glowing white with a dangerous, lethal aura. The weak, submissive Omega named Aisha died tonight in this dirt. Turning my back on the graves, I walked away from the Blue Wing pack house and slipped into the shadows of the unknown world. I was leaving now. But I would return. And when I did, I wouldn't be hiding my white fur anymore. I would be their worst nightmare.

"Fine by me if you want to end it in our other forms." In an instant the man was a wolf. Her bones shifted and the pain from the broken ribs was excruciating. Once she was a wolf Clara stood on all fours. The other wolf blocked her exit. He started snarling at her, lunging forward. She moved out of the way each time, but he was forcing her backwards. Realizing she would have to go through him, Clara hurled herself forward. She caught him off-guard, but not enough to knock him down. She felt his teeth sink into her back and she let out a yelp. He clamped down hard and shook his head back and forth grinding his teeth in the process.

She’d fought and she’d won. So where was she? A mournful howl rose up into the night air. It started soft and quiet, but grew and grew until it was all Elijah could hear. Frowning, he turned towards it. A ring of wolves surrounded a single one. Huge, black – and lifeless. The wolves bowed their heads, some crying, some falling at the black wolf’s feet. Elijah recognised the light brown wolf from the fight against Apollo – and, beside it, was a white wolf he would know anywhere.

Grace was now in the car and after their conversation with Demir she could not even imagine him right now and so she laughed hardly enough to resist it. She tightened her fist and said. “A wolf is in our cage.” “Are you serious?” a voice of a man echoed through her phone while hearing Grace chuckling on his words. She handed down her phone and removed her sweater and rubbed her hands with alcohol. “Hang on babe, I gotta disinfect my hands ‘cause I might carried some of his bacteria.”

"I heard about you. About how you were rejected and survived. I thought maybe you could help me figure out how to keep going." Aria's heart ached for this young wolf. She saw her younger self in Sarah's desperate eyes. "You're going to survive this," Aria said firmly. "I know it doesn't feel like it now. I know the pain seems endless. But you're stronger than you think." "Everyone says that. But I don't feel strong. I feel broken." "I felt the same way. But broken doesn't mean destroyed. You can heal. It takes time, but you can." Aria took Sarah's hand. "Have you heard of Haven? Kade's settlement for wolves who need a fresh start?"

*The Broken Stones — Sunrise* The first howl split the sky. It was long and low, a sound that vibrated through the world. Wolves from all packs raised their heads as one, answering the call. At the Broken Stones, the world was already broken. Mist coiled over shattered pillars. The ground bore the grooves of dragged bodies, and the faint scent of blood clung to every breath of wind. Elira still stood at the heart of it all with Lesley standing just behind her.

No more fire. Only emptiness. Her wolf… was gone. I staggered back. A werewolf without their wolf is more than just weakened. They’re hollow. Disconnected from their instincts, their strength, and their bond to the moon. No pack would follow her. No Alpha would see her. Even the rage that once burned in her chest would never return. She was... destroyed. Not dead. But broken in a way that death might’ve envied. She whimpered, low and pathetic. And in that moment, for just a blink, I felt sorry for her.

Instead, I just stared at it, my exhaustion outweighing my fear. “What do you want from me?” I whispered, my voice hoarse. It tilted its head, studying me like it could understand the weight of my question. “I’m broken,” I continued, my voice cracking. “I don’t know who to trust anymore. Everyone I thought cared about me…” I trailed off, shaking my head as fresh tears threatened to fall. The wolf let out another low whine, its ears flattening slightly as if it could feel my pain. I sniffled, wrapping my arms tighter around myself. “I’m not strong enough for this. I never was. They all see me as weak, pathetic. And maybe they’re right.”

This girl had seen so many awful things here to be worried for a stranger that she hardly knew, and that scared me. I tried to dismiss her with a wave of my hand, but the best I could do was budge my finger. “I’m okay,” I croaked like a frog that lived in the deepest, murkiest waters of a swamp. “I-it’s just that we have three hours, and-and no one would be brave to come down d-during that time so I… I’m sorry.” I’d never seen a more broken wolf. It made me so mad. “I didn’t want you to get in trouble. I really don’t mind you talking. Besides, I haven’t talked to a normal wolf since…” Since I died? Since my family was murdered? Since my pack was destroyed? “...everything.”

Carlton rose to retrieve a glass of water from the dispenser. "Why do you say that?" I inquired with effort, grappling with the aftermath. "Your wolf is now fragmented. If you can't sense or hear her, she's been torn in two. Your ex’s Alpha wolf is very strong. Recovery is uncertain," he divulged, and a gasp escaped me. Tears welled up as I comprehended the magnitude of my loss. My wolf was more than a companion; she was my very soul, an integral part of my being. How would I carry on without her?
