My wolf went quiet, still, staring.
I whispered without thinking, “How am I looking at you?”
He let out a sharp laugh, bitter and broken. “Like I’m broken. Like you finally saw through the bullshit and all you found was a fucked-up mess.”
My throat locked. My hand twitched like I wanted to touch him, to reach across that line, but I froze. My wolf pushed against me, whining, torn.
