The sun was warm, and the breeze was light. The ocean was calm and peaceful. The bright colors of her dreams seemed to have relaxed her. In a blink of an eye, the water became angry and began to thrash around her ankles. The water began to rise slowly. The air became darker, and the air began to heat up. Megan couldn’t catch her breath. Lighting lit up the sky as the thunder began to rumble. She ran toward the small cabin to wait out the incoming storm.

"I have no idea what you're talking about, Mr. Coleman." Wesley chuckled. "Play dumb all you want. I'll only count to three. If I don't hear anything useful by then, you can say goodbye to your son." He started counting, watching every twitch on Thomas' frightened face. "Three! Two!" As the stroller tipped toward the river, Thomas couldn't take it anymore and yelled, "I'll talk! I'll tell you everything. Jamie and Sandra staged everything—the video at the farewell gathering, the plunge off the cliff, and the art exhibition burning down.

Jonah's hand was icy. “The sea is calm today,” Clarkson said, his voice softer than the waves outside. It was an offering. A piece of their shared peace, held out like a talisman.
