Listening to the birds chirping and enjoying the heat from the sun on my skin. I see the bus in a far, I walk up to the end of the driveway as it stops. I smile, knowing Jayden is home, I then watch as Jayden is coming off the bus. Knowing, no matter what happens, he is my happiness and I will do whatever I need to do to protect him. So for now, we will be the calm before the storm.

I never imagined that this was the calm before the storm. – End of chapter 8 -

It was a feeling that I would never get tired of. "Alright, let's get moving," Storm signed, breaking the silence. "We've got footage to review and a storm to analyze." We piled back into the Hummer, eager to start reviewing the footage and analyzing the storm's data. As we drove, Rain started going through the footage, looking for the best shots. Blaze was busy checking the storm's data, looking for any patterns or anomalies. Ryker and I were quiet, watching the landscape unfold outside the window.

“Just drop me off at any hotel we’ll pass by,” I told Waldo who was driving the car. I didn’t bother myself to look at him. My eyes remained looking at the window where raindrops continuously flowed weakly. There’s still a thunderstorm threatening to destroy the peace of the people. But it is still not much felt in our vicinity. And unlike how vividly you could feel its warning last night, it offered silence the day after. If this is what they call the calm before the storm, then it should be scary. I haven't experienced being in the middle of a thunderstorm. But since I have watched the news I would not ask to experience more. It’s downright scary.

Cameron had tears in his eyes as he took Stella’s hand and they both turned to face each other. “Dearly beloved,” the justice of the peace began. “We are gathered here today to witness the union of…” Lightning flashed through the sky and thunder rolled, interrupting the Justice of the Peace. It wasn’t raining yet, but we all knew that, at any moment, the clouds would open up and the rain would start pouring down. But for the moment, the air was still. The Justice of the Peace continued, his tone a bit rushed. It was quite literally the calm before the storm.

The calm is ending. The storm is coming. And I am ready.

--------------- The Calm Before the Storm The fortress was alive with activity, warriors and weapons being sharpened, low prayers whispered to gods who had long since stopped paying attention. The air was charged with expectancy, the sort that descended into bones, into fate. I was standing outside, watching the sun get lower, setting the sky on fire. It felt fitting. In the fading light of day, Maxwell spots me there, a storm behind me. “I don’t like this” he said softly.

And this time, when their eyes met, it wouldn’t be a storm. It would be the calm that follows.

And the calm that followed, was not peace. It was acceptance before motion.
