Novel & Cerita The Council Will Decide Your Fate

Lily replied. He absorbed that carefully. “That would be… loud,” he said. “Sometimes,” she agreed. He hesitated, then leaned slightly closer. “Here, we don’t raise issues unless council opens space for them.” “Does council open space often?” Lily asked gently. He paused. “Not unless necessary.” Necessary defined by whom? She did not say it aloud. Instead, she asked, “And who decides what’s necessary?” His eyes flickered toward the hall again. “Council,” he answered.

But now, as soon as I stepped inside the main hall, I could tell reality had caught up with us again. The triplets were quiet, each of them tense in their own way. Axel’s face was expressionless, but his body was tense. Zade’s hands were shoved deep in his pockets to hide their trembling. Roman’s eyes kept darting toward the Council meeting room like he was already expecting bad news. My stomach twisted as one of the members approached. “The Council has made their decision,” he said formally. “The trial union will take place soon.” My mouth went dry immediately. Trial union? It sounded like something from a fairytale that always ended in disaster.

"Then you have no right to speak on such issues or make such rash decisions." "Then I would like to appeal the council's decision and invoke my right to demand a unanimous verdict." He lowers his gun. "If the council does not meet a unanimous verdict by sundown, it goes to a public poll and the offender in question persecuted in town square." "An Unfortunate stands no fair trial against a public of Fortunates." He shrugs. "That's not my problem."

I turn away from Saph and Alpha Asher. “Oh, Brick. Don’t you get it? If I don’t do this, you’ll lose me anyway. This poison will kill me before the week is out. Wouldn’t it be better to go out on my own terms? By doing this, everyone else can live. It’s the easiest decision I’ve ever made,” I explain to him as silent tears cascade down my cheeks. “But I…” I put my hand over his mouth to stop him from speaking. “Don’t try to talk me out of this. This is the only way. Please, Brick. I need you to agree with this,” I plead. My mind is made up, but doing this without him being on board will hurt even more.

"There's going to be a vote. Two weeks from now. Whether to keep you on the Council or remove you." I laughed bitterly. "Perfect. So while I'm trying to save supernatural beings from slavery and corruption, the Council is trying to take away my ability to do anything about it." "Politics is rarely fair," Theodore said. "But I wanted you to know what you're facing. So you can prepare."

They were still here tonight‚ still smiling and shaking hands and pretending they had a stake in the outcome‚ but everyone in the room knew the real contest was between me and Ronan. The Council’s decision would come at the end of the season. An endless stretch of evaluations‚ political maneuvering‚ public appearances‚ and every single moment being watched‚ weighed‚ and judged by a panel of elders who would decide which of us was fit to rule not just our own pack‚ but all four territories.

"That depends significantly on the outcome of the council hearing. If Lucius is formally censured — which is the resistance's goal — then the question of succession becomes a matter for the council rather than Lucius's personal decision. We would still be his sons, still carry the bloodline. Our standing doesn't simply evaporate." "And if the hearing goes the other way?" "Then we'll have burned a great many bridges," Darren said from the floor, his voice matter-of-fact. "And we'll figure out what comes next from the other side of them." He glanced up at me. "We knew that going in. All three of us. It wasn't a surprise decision." Something in my chest tightened with the weight of what they'd

“And you need to decide what that means for you. For your pack. Because the Council won’t forget this.” Grayson gave a single, broken nod.

"Whatever happens tomorrow, you've built something amazing. This district will never be the same. You've shown people what's possible." "Win or lose?" Maya asked. "Win or lose. Though I'm hoping for win." "The numbers favor us," Morgan said. "Our district and neutral district combined have twice Gregory's population. If voting is based on total pack member preference—" "We don't know the voting structure yet," Damon interrupted. "The Council hasn't announced criteria." He was right to be cautious. Everything depended on how the Council framed the question. I barely slept that night. Morning came with Elder Kaius's announcement.

I said to Elara, still not quite believing it myself. "We did," she said. "Though I suspect Hollowmere's real fight has not even begun yet, whatever tonight's vote has settled for now." "No," I agreed. "This pack cannot make that choice from inside a council chamber. It will have to be made by the people standing at Hollowmere itself, when the time finally comes for it." I folded the letter away carefully and looked south, toward the road that would finally, after everything, carry me back to her at last. "I do not intend to let Rhen stand beside that choice without me for a single day longer than this council has already forced upon us both."
