The Council Will Decide Your Fate Novels & Stories

Alpha Peter of the Mystic Hills Pack concluded, dismissing me. I bowed to the council before turning and leaving. I took a deep breath and exhaled as I left the room. I was nervous. The decision this council was about to make could alter my life forever. It could also do absolutely nothing if they chose to give me the time originally agreed upon. I sat outside the chambers nervously pawing my fingers and nails as my father spoke to the council and they made their ruling. I assumed Fen went back to his room to wait for their decision. They did say they would call us with the decision, but knowing my dad is in there with them, I'm staying put until he comes out!

"In short, are you asking for this meeting to be dismissed and saying you wasted my time?" She went on her knees, her head on the ground, "I'm so sorry Your Majesty, pleads forgive me." Elias scoffed and turned to the council, "Do you have anything to say too,?" His eyes strayed to me, my eyes and back to my eyes. My breath came in short, and I felt hot. They shook their head. "The Luna will decide your fate." Elias suddenly announced to the woman. She raised her head up and turned to me with teary eyes.

“Not… privately?” “This is a matter of the pack’s future,” the oldest says. “We will do it in the open. Let him face the council with answers.” No one argues after that. The decision settles over the table like a cold blanket. The rest of the gathering carries on, but the talk shifts to weather, trade, anything but the heir. Still, the rumor sits in the back of everyone’s mind, refusing to leave. By nightfall, word of the council’s decision has already moved through the corridors of the packhouse. Servants pass each other in the hallways with knowing glances. The walls seem to hold the whispers.

Not acceptance. Not rejection. The pause that follows stretches unbearably long. My heart hammers as the question hangs unspoken in the air, heavy with consequence. Will he claim the bond? Or will he deny it again? Ronan’s gaze hardens, something resolute settling over his features. He lowers his hands to his sides, shoulders squaring. “The council will decide the next steps,” he says coolly. “This matter is not resolved.” A sharp ache spreads through my chest. Not resolved.

He added relaxing more into his bed. “ Think about it. At this point, it's not only the Alpha king that is after you now, what about the vampire king? You tried to kill him and you injured his mate! What do you think the council is made up of? This matter is beyond the judgment of the Alpha king alone. All the leaders of every supernatural race will be the ones to decide your fate, you will be hanged publicly and your pack will be destroyed. Is that what you want?” She asked, without his knowledge; her eyes flashed deep purple lulling him deep into her manipulation.

“I'll keep that in mind.” I didn't wait to hear whatever it was he had to say. By the time I got close enough to the two I’d been following, they were mid-conversation. “…the Council won’t wait much longer,” one was saying. “I can feel it.” “I know,” the other replied. “But if the challenge goes through, it won’t just decide rank. It could shift everything.” “Only if they win. And if she’s involved….” The speaker’s eyes darted briefly in my direction, but I didn’t look away fast enough.

I said. “We’ve already discussed leaving, Link needs to fully take over here without your interference,” Megan said. “You could always come home for a while,” Lucas said. “Yeah maybe,” I said as the doors of the meeting hall opened once again and the Elders walked out followed by the three Council members. “Thank you for your patience,” Elder Malcolm said. “We have taken all statements into consideration and we have made our final decision. This decision cannot be appealed and it will be final,” Elder Edward said.

"The pack was supposed to vote on your leadership in two weeks. The Gathering happens first." "The vote is postponed," I decided. "Until after the Gathering. If we survive, if we succeed in exposing the Council, then the pack decides whether my leadership is worth keeping. But first, we focus on the immediate crisis." "And if we do not survive?" Luna asked bluntly. "Then the vote is irrelevant," I said. "Because we will all be dead." Silence came after, the weight of what we were planning settling over everyone. "Any other questions?" I asked.

From the other end of the hall, the Council's messenger called out in a deep voice, "All parties, please return to the chamber. The Chairman is about to deliver the final verdict." I turned and walked resolutely toward the oak doors, not sparing Leo another glance. Returning to my seat at the long table, Nico leaned in and asked quietly, "Can you handle it?" "No problem," I replied calmly. The family elders took their seats. The brass-headed cane, the symbol of the highest authority, struck the floor with a heavy, muffled thud. "The verdict will now be announced." The Council Chairman's voice, though aged, was immensely powerful, echoing through the dead-silent underground chamber. "After de

"Then let's move with purpose instead of panic. If the Council rules against you, what do we actually lose by using the time to prepare rather than mourn in advance?" "Prepare how?" Nyra asked. "You heard them. If they decide against her, nothing currently awake in her is enough to stop it." "Then we find out if that's true," Rhaevan said, "or we find something else that changes the calculation before dawn." Vaelric, who'd been quiet since the parapet, finally spoke from his seat near the door. "The Council said her answer changed the weight of the decision. That means it's not fixed yet. Which means there might still be something that tips it further in her favor before they rule."
