I made an appointment for this week with my regular stylist – my nextdoor neighbour who cuts everyone in the block of flats’ hair in her tatty old kitchen with the stained yellow linoleum floors and dented stainless steel sink. When she looked up, she spotted Steven across the street in the yard of another house. She paused mid-step. Standing in front of Steven was none other than Quinn. "That newlywed couple has such a sweet relationship. They take walks in the yard together every afternoon. Makes you jealous just watching them." A voice sighed nearby. Celine turned. It was a neighbor from the next building over, Lydia Wilkins. They'd run into each other a few times and occasionally exchanged pleasantries. "I remember that house has the best layout in the whole neighborhood. I heard they even paid extra to get it. Oh, youth!" Lydia's face was full of envy.

Danielle's POV. The young man flashed another charming smile at me and said with a husky voice, "I am your neighbour from next door. I had no idea that someone has moved in here. Usually, I come to your backyard to meditate and enjoy the view. The view here is a lot better than mine. I was even contemplating moving in here just because of the view." I was still stunned, unable to speak. He wasn't just handsome, he was cheerful and free spirited.

However, his expression was icy and unsmiling, and for a second she wished he'd just snap her neck out of anger rather than the perilous calmness and composure he exuded. “Um, I'm Cee, your next-door neighbor.” She introduced herself, flashing a bigger grin than necessary. But the hardness in his gaze only switched to a poker expression that made her skin crawl in dread. Due to the extreme focus she had on his face, she didn't realize when her back slammed against the brick walls of his apartment that the force made her wince. Meanwhile, his height dwarfed her presence as they now stood inches from each other, and she found herself holding her breath.

Good friends and neighbors get a lot more neighborly. It was the perfect place to start their new life together and to raise a family. Several months later, another young couple, Rosa and Carlos purchased the house next door and the two couples quickly became friends. Lori and Rosa got pregnant a couple of months apart with their first child and shared the joys and tribulations of motherhood. It was also nice to know that their children would probably become best friends too.

If someone really shouted my name next door, I would have heard it even without recording it. I had to find out who was there. Even if Zach did come back from the dead, I would kill him all over again. I grabbed my crutch and, despite the stabbing pain in my leg, inched toward the door. The corridor outside was dark and narrow, crammed with the neighbors’ junk. It smelled of mold and rotting leftovers. I pressed my ear to the door while holding my breath, straining to catch any sound from the apartment across the hall. There was only silence. It was too quiet.

I guess you could say she was a house help, but I could tell that she meant so much more to the family. My parents doted on her and did most things on their own anyway, in fact, it seemed like they kept her here as more of a companion than a help. "So, who lives next door?" I questioned as we waited for some parfait, curiosity of the man I had seen earlier getting to me. "Next door?" My mother looked at me confused for a second before her eyes lit up in realization. "Is that Damon Anderson? Yes, well a young man by name of Damon crowther Anderson he visits here once in a while, he lives next door."

“I don't remember many new neighbors. The only ones are the ones that lived there even before we moved there. A frail couple whose estate is behind ours. I only remember one of the elders coming over, what's his name again- the close friend of that one in charge of security? I don't recall his name, but he was the one who was staking out the place, and he ended up saying he didn't like it when he and my husband went on a walk in that area. Avery's POV I sit by the window of the living room, staring at the house across. It was a family duplex owned by a retired couple who lived together, doing nothing all day except tending to the little garden in front of their house. After almost two weeks of moving in here, it had become my routine after the boys left for school. I would watch the old couple laugh and smile at whatever each other said; sometimes, I even wondered if that would have been the same case with him—growing old together and smiling so lovingly at each other like lovestruck teenagers while our sons were busy with their own families.

I never expected that fresh start to include the beautiful couple next door and everything they've taught me about pleasure, about desire, about the things I was too afraid to want. But now that I've had a taste of them, I know I'll never be satisfied with anything less. Some neighbors borrow sugar. Mine share absolutely everything.
