"I'll see you all back here in two hours." The diner was exactly the rundown, beautifully greasy haven Jax had promised. The bell above the heavy glass door jingled a dull, metallic greeting as they walked in, and the air inside was instantly thick with the comforting, heavy scent of old coffee and deep-frying oil. They claimed a large, faded red vinyl booth near the back window. Jax slid in right next to Ginny, immediately placing the absolute largest strawberry milkshake the diner could legally serve directly in front of her. It was practically overflowing from a tall, chilled glass, complete with a massive mountain of whipped cream and a bright red cherry resting perfectly on top.

After all, it wasn't like they would count me in when dividing the bill, right? Besides, the gifts I had bought for everyone already cost tens of thousands of dollars. Going after me for a little over 100 dollars would be strange and ridiculous. We had traveled for hours to get here, and after cooking up a feast, I was starving. Hence, I didn't hesitate and immediately helped myself to the food. Unexpectedly, Melissa smacked my hand away and shrieked, "Have you no self-control? "Table four needs a coffee refill, and grab a fresh pot for the counter!" "On it!" I called back, sliding the spatula into its metal holder. I grabbed a glass pot of dark roast, smoothed down my apron, and stepped around the swinging kitchen doors onto the diner floor. The place was packed with the usual lunchtime crowd: truck drivers, shop owners from down the street, and a couple of rogue wolves grabbing cheap burgers. I hit table four, topped off an old guy's cup with a quick nod, and turned toward the front entrance just as the bell above the door jangled loudly.

I saw Jack’s eyes light up as he took in the floor to ceiling shelves full of every game for every console. Jack selected some kind of shooting game that I had never heard of. I watched as him and Danny sat on the large sofa chairs and began to play, throwing jibes and playful insults
