By dusk, they reached what looked like the edge of a canyon only it wasn’t a canyon. The earth had split in a near-perfect circle, the center filled with mist that shimmered like oil. At the bottom, something pulsed faintly, the same rhythm as the shard in Nora’s hand.
Lira peered over the edge. “That’s not natural.”
“Nothing about this is,” Nora replied, stepping closer. The shard’s light brightened as she leaned over, almost blinding her. “It’s down there.”
