Something sharp shot up from the darkness and went through my side. I screamed before I could stop myself. The pain was like nothing I had ever felt before. It was like my whole body was on fire. For a second, I could not hear anything except my heartbeat. Then Cassian moved. I snarled at him and pulled myself off the spike. It hurt more when the barbs came out. I fell to the floor, covered in blood. My hand slipped in the blood, but I got up anyway. One of my legs did not want to work, but I made it move.

“Almost twenty-four hours, give or take. I went home when the doctor and nurse were on duty, but I told the warden I needed some easy overtime and he let me come back.” Dom took the glass of water from him, and with a shaky hand, managed to get some of it in his mouth. “Thanks for that. What happened?” Barry shook his head. “I don’t know for sure. I came along and everyone scattered. I told you to watch your back.” Dom handed him back the water and tried to slide up a bit in the bed. His side burned. Stopping, he lifted the sheet and looked at the bandage. “Did I lose anything important?”

"Dani, I might have gone about it the wrong way, but it was all because I love you. I guarantee no one in this world loves you more than I do." He threw a barrage of fire and lightning at me, I could dodge the flames easily, but the lightning was a problem.

BENJAMIN'S POV Barry made it to the compound on his own two legs — more than I'd have bet on when I first found him. A rogue had come down through the east woods and caught him on patrol, and it left a long tear down his forearm and something worse across the ribs, and he held the line long enough for the rest of us to put the thing down before he listed, his legs starting to fold under him, and he started leaning into me harder than he'd ever have let himself lean sober.

I fling my arm, throwing him into a tree. His body slams into it and shatters bones as he slides to the ground. Whimpering in pain, I ignore him moving toward Adam and his barrier. He starts to try and back up, trying to make himself smaller within his confined space. I get closer and drop the barrier which leaves him falling to the ground.

The pain was new and totally agonizing his hands won't stop shaking his heart beat was slow. He looked down at the bruises scattered across his abdomen, he turned around half way so he could have a looked at his battered back, the opened bruises were dense with dried blood and only looking at it made him dizzy, he used the sink to support himself. Then he reach back to feel the injury and winced as fresh tears pour out of his exhausted eyes. He looked down at the tub and sigh. He hated water but if the injury isn't properly taken care of it might become infected. And he couldn't go down to the clinic, Flash had clearly stated no one must be aware.

“A verifiable injury.” “What?” I stand as the thoughts blow through my mind, becoming clearer by the second. “Jade’s trust fund. We can still find a way to get it.” “By injuring her?” “An accident,” I say softly. “But not to her. Me.” Barbar’s eyes go wide, gleaming with a hopeless brilliance. “A horrific accident. You fell down the stairs. A compound fracture. Something they can't call a psychological lie.” She’s getting it. She slaps her forehead. “That’s fucking insane, Danny.” Then she breaks into boisterous laughter. “Jade doesn't care about you enough to look at you twice, not even if you’re bandaged like an Egyptian mummy.”

I ran over to Adrian, yelling at them to stop, pulling on the collar of Adrian's shirt to get his attention without getting in the way of his fist. He eventually stopped, looking back at me, so much anger and betrayal in his eyes. What right does he have to look at me like that? I’m not the one who betrayed him. It was the other way around, and I’m not going to let him make me feel worse than I already do. “What the hell are you both doing in my kitchen?! Why the hell are you in my house, Barry? And where the heck are your clothes?” Barry’s nose and mouth are bleeding, and his lip is fat, as well as his cheek and eyes. He is going to look like a stinking mess when the bruises come in.

His wound bled heavily. Dylan was still in shock. He had seen it with his own eyes—Barrett had slammed into the wall with such force. Dylan felt as though Barrett was trying to end his life right then and there. Luckily, in his rage, Barrett had stumbled, which lessened the blow. Otherwise, there was no doubt he would've died on impact.
