“Now,” the Specialist said, turning to Hope. The little girl was alone, backing toward the frozen ocean. “Let’s finish the cleaning.”
The Specialist walked toward Hope, raising the golden scalpel high.
“Wait!” Hope cried.
She reached into her pocket, pulling out two black, melted pieces of the golden key. “You want the system to be perfect? The Master said this key was the only thing that could lock the world!”
The Specialist laughed—a dry, empty sound. “That key was a toy for a student, little girl. It’s broken, burnt, useless.”
