Xander matched his stride with mine, his massive black and white wolf just slightly smaller than my own. I focused my attention back onto Grace, watching how Darius shivered under her touch. Her nails shifted into claws, digging their way into the throat muscle. Darius' mouth opened but no sound eminated as blood leaked out of his wounds. "You will never harm my kind again," Grace whispered lowly before ripping his throat out completely.

The moment I saw him, relief flooded through me. “Griffin.” He didn’t answer. He just kept walking, his figure half-hidden in the shifting light. When he stepped close enough for me to see his face, my breath caught. It was him, but it wasn’t. His eyes were pitch black, swallowing the light. His skin looked almost gray, veins pulsing faintly beneath the surface as if something alive was crawling under it. And around his neck hung an amulet, identical to the one I’d seen on Lilith. Only this one… this one was cracked, bleeding a faint trail of light that pulsed like a heartbeat.

Then to both. “No,” he gritted through clenched teeth. “Not now… not *this* again.” His wolves surged forward, poised to support their leader, yet hesitated at the intensity of his snarl. “Stay back!” he commanded. Beneath his skin, twin streaks of black lightning danced violently along his arms and neck—something dark clawing at the edges of his consciousness. His muscles seized; veins bulged with a sinister hue before fading into ghostly gray lines, scars hidden from the world.

He howled, head snapping back. Dre handed me a rag. “Again?” I nodded. We took turns—fists to ribs, crunching; knees to the gut, making him retch. A knife drawn slowly across his thigh—not deep enough to kill, just enough to make him scream as blood soaked his pants. “Talk,” I growled, twisting the blade just a little. Brandon gasped, sweat mixing with blood on his face. “Go to hell.” Dre laughed darkly. “We’re already there, man. You’re just the guest.”
