None of us did, but I could tell he was already cultivating a deep, systemic hatred for our new reality. He had an inherent disgust for anything that resembled charity or a handout. I was not entirely successful. The lecture was fine. Whether I was actually going to do it. Whether I was going to take the challenge he had dropped on me right there in my bedroom while his hand was inside me and Jaxon was at the bottom of the stairs. Make him hate me. The idea of it felt ridiculous and also, quietly, terrifying. I was walking the hallway toward my next class with my phone in my hand, checking it for the fourth time since I sat down in my last lecture, when I heard my name.

She didn’t even know that if she didn’t behave there would be a punishment, she was just way too kind and innocent and naturally submissive. It would make him so mad that he didn’t have an excuse to punish her, that mine would be ten times as bad whenever she was around. Somewhere along the line, my constant bullying of her became sort of a habit and his extra punishments started to actually make me hate her. I hate her for being so good. So, jokes on him, because he actually made me hate the one person he could have used to get to me.

I barely get many reviews on the front page of the book so a review this poor would set me back so far. You can criticise the book without rating it poorly and if it’s that bad, don’t read it. I woke up sad and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. I consider stopping the book altogether (mean critiques get to me more than they should.) I am not saying this for my book alone. It applies to others as well. I kill myself to write and brush up on my chapters. I also don’t get paid to write on GN. I do it because I am committed, and love my readers here so much.
