Adeline was shocked. “Are these werewolves able to read minds?” Adeline thought in her mind. “We can't read minds but it's written all over your face. Your expressions are kinda readable.” Josephine told her how they can tell what's going on in her mind. When Adeline was back in Allister house everyone was happy to have her back. She noticed only Vasili was missing there. So she excused herself and went to meet her husband. When she opened the door the room was dark and it was filled with smoke.

I steeled myself and opened the door. The hallway was awash in red. Smears and spatters of bright and dark blood covered the walls, the floor, and my door. My head reeled. What the hell happened? Why was there so much blood outside my door? Hadn't the guy in 603 seen it through his peephole? I couldn't help looking toward apartment 603. To my surprise, the door stood half-open, and it was dead quiet inside. I picked my way past the bloodstains and made my way to apartment 603.

" Adeline shouted and tried to stand, but her knees shook with a strange intensity. She fell back. "Watch how you deteriorate slowly. The wound on your back will speed up the action, and that wound will start spreading till you die in three hours. No one is coming to save you anyways. See you in hell." Poe waved, walking out of the basement. "Poe!!!!!" Adeline screamed helplessly on the ground as the door closed.

The three of them eat some more cake and pack the rest of it back for the others to enjoy. Since yesterday, Adeline had been feeling quite anxious and nervous. When she had been cursed to desiccate, she had known that it would be some time before she woke up again. But she had never imagined that it would be almost a hundred years. The world she has woken up in is so drastically different from what she had left behind. She was happy to have her elder sister by her side. They had talked very late into the night and she had filled her in on a lot of things that had happened and changed since 1924.

Dad certainly wouldn’t take her in, so unless she was ready to do fight for survival at Lila’s house, she could be homeless. The moment we were in her room, the door slapped behind us. Adeline stood beside it, one hand on her waist while her foot tapped furiously against the marble floor. “Now, what exactly was it I was supposed to hear?” She grunted. “Adeline, it might have started as revenge. I know it doesn’t even make it any better.” I dropped her bags gently beside her bed. I wanted her to see I meant every word, but I couldn’t look at her, not when she stared me down like she was ready to eye laser through me. The worst part was the disgust in her eyes.

Adeline asked, her tone shaking. I don't know if she noticed it, but to my ear, it never escaped. This just proves how scared she was right now. “Your destiny is with Evangeline's hands,” Maximus smirked. My brows furrowed upon staring at Maximus. He called some warriors to drag Adeline out from the room, pulling her through the field. And because of Adeline's loud screams, it captured the attention of the wolves. They immediately run to the field to find out what happened. On the other hand, Drake came back.

And strangely, I didn’t feel any attraction towards her. I wasn’t sure if it had faded over time since it was a stupid infatuation or if was it replaced by someone more…important? I walked out of the manor and found the ‘more important.’ Adeline stood before the birds with a bowl of grain in her hand, and she fed them. The birds seemed to be flocking around her as if she was snow white. Her lips moved as she looked at one of them. Was she talking to them? I moved closer to listen in.

My heart stopped as I hit a hard moving surface. “Stay away from her! She’s perfectly lucid!” Relief washed over me as I registered the voice. I turned to see Rade. “The Kids are at the Hollen Mansion. The house was empty, Adeline took some valuables, and left. The police are looking for her and them?” He glanced at the nurses. “She hit a nurse and—“ “I’m sorry, I am so sorry,” I said, leaning against Rade. “It’s just… I… my kids and husband. I have no right to do that, I am so sorry,” I swallowed the sob in my throat, “I would never hurt anyone.”

Adeline blinked, rubbing her eyes. “Odette… you’re home already?” she asked, yawning. “Yes! How long have you been here? Why didn’t you call me first?” Odette asked. “I came from the supermarket… and I forgot my phone,” Adeline replied, her eyes filled with sadness. Odette frowned. “Adeline… are you in trouble?” Adeline nodded. “Then tell me. What happened?” Without saying a word, Adeline suddenly wrapped her arms around Odette, holding her tightly. She broke down, tears pouring out as the fear she had been holding in finally spilled free.

My feet cripples and I collapse on the van floor. A hand pick me up and throw me at the corner. They slammed the boy to my side. He wheezed. I gasp. His head hits my rib side, sending black spots to my eyes. I’m still coughing and gasping for air when a shoe heel pressed itself in my head. Forcing me to bend. “So it wasn’t that challenging to find you.” Adeline said, exerting force to her heel, bending me lower. I catch a crack of glimpse behind her shoe. Her blood red lips curl into a smile. A calculative evil smile. And I can’t suppress the shudder running through my spine. The groundkeeper has settled himself in the passenger seat at the front.
