"It means exactly what it sounds like." Jane's brows furrowed deeper. Victor let out an exaggerated sigh as though he was speaking to a particularly slow child. But I kept my expression so deadly serious that he swallowed the laugh down. “What do you mean you're a ghost? What kind of a sick joke is this?” “A ghost joke,” I shot back, attempting to deflect his humor. “Aren't I just hilarious?” I pouted, arching a single brow at him. A sudden, genuine laugh escaped his lips. I almost let my own smile slip at my own stupidity. My fingers on his shirt loosened just a fraction, but I tightened my grip again instantly, reminding him that we weren't here to play games. His eyes darted down to my grip, registering the sudden seriousness of the situation.

His eyes locked onto mine. “If he ever hurts you again…” His words dropped like a stone in my chest, and I froze. “I will willingly kill.” I blinked. Shock stole my breath. My first reaction was disbelief. Then, against my better judgment, I let out a laugh. It was harsh, incredulous, but it came out anyway. “You… already know how to joke now, huh?” Jaron’s lips twitched, almost the ghost of a smile, but his voice remained steady, calm, and terrifyingly sincere. “I’m not joking.”

“What? Are you kidding me?” “I wish I was,” he replies in all seriousness. “You know, you’re really an ass for coming up with something like this,” I retort, my anger driving me to my feet. I point at the door. “Just leave, alright? I’ll forget you ever came up with this stupid joke. “This is serious. We have no idea what they’re planning, but it’s big, and it’s dangerous. We don’t have time for jokes.” I rubbed my temple, feeling the weight of her words pressing down on me. “I know, I know. Just trying to… you know, cope.” “I get it,” she said, softer now. “But I need you to take this seriously. We don’t know what they’re planning, and that’s what makes it so dangerous.” I sighed, my mood dropping. “I get it. No more jokes. I’ll be ready. I asked him straightforwardly “Zara, why are you not talking to me?” he asked with sadness all over his handsome face. “Don’t you know!” I said rolling my eyes on him “I was just joking Zara, I didn’t meant any harm” he said in a saddest tone ever. “Joking…why is that every serious situation is a joke for you Rocky? I exhaled in disbelief, and he chuckled. “Relax, I was just kidding.” He chuckled and placed the mug on the ground. “Try to take jokes sometimes.
