Bright and early the next day, I showed up at the office as usual. I ignored the whispers and stares, and made a beeline for my desk to start clearing it out. That was when Lily waltzed over, oozing fake sympathy. "Janice, can't you take a joke? "Come on, it was just a little toilet cleaning. Why'd you have to go and tell Mr. Hoffman you're quitting? No need to blow things out of proportion. "Look, I'll even dip into my own wallet and toss you a little extra cash to make up for it.

Zack Moller, one of my friends, asked curiously, "Ryan, are you serious?" I downed a drink and responded, "Dead serious. It's over." The group exhaled in relief. "Honestly, Ryan, you've wasted two years of your life. We've warned you so many times, but you were so stubborn, like you were cursed or something." "I saw Jen with another guy just a few days ago," one of them chimed in. I glanced at him, and he immediately clammed up. Zack patted my shoulder and tried to comfort me. "Alright, man. Let's chill tonight and blow off some steam. Do you want to hit up another spot?"

he said, pacing again, each footstep a drumbeat that seemed to echo against the stone walls of our cell. Daniel…the joker, the one who could defuse any tension with a quip or sarcastic grin…was serious. Deadly serious. And now I was starting to feel a chill creep up my spine. Whatever was going on is making him this way, has to be very important. I idly rubbed my chin, pretending to think as I studied him. “Hmmm… weird that you will get serious about something. You’re always the one to throw jokes when things get rough. And now…this? Should I be scared?”

His jaw clicked. "Nothing's funny, Angel." I smiled sweetly reached for his jaw. I felt the pressure loosened. I could feel his weakness in the touch I had made on him. "Why are you always this serious huh?" I asked mockingly. He held my hand that’s holding him. The zoo inside me once again celebrated. "When it comes to you, jokes have no place." a streak of integrity echoed in his tone. I cocked my head and still pouted. I was about to lower my hand but he tightened his grip there so I could keep holding his jaw.

Because of what he said, I want to laugh. Is he already insane? Why is he so irritated because I wounded myself with the knife? I produced a serious expression to demonstrate that I was not amused by what he said. I pretended it wasn’t a big deal and then joined in on his joke.

Was he serious right now? When he just kept staring at me and I saw that there wasn’t a single thread of amusement in his expression, I knew that he wasn’t joking. He was serious as a heart attack. What the actual fuck? “Do you realise how crazy that sounds?” I asked, appalled and rightfully angry. “You’re turning what should be us merely enjoying ourselves into a transaction.”

I tell him m with a grunt. “A joke. I understand you're sad that I want to stay away but can you refrain from calling our relationship a joke?" The chuckles turn into full blown laughter. Well someone is happy with women. Why would he not? “You are an idiot." “Okay now you are just jealous." And they laugh again. There is nothing remotely funny about this clown so I do not understand what they keep laughing at. “Can you be serious for once? I need to ask you about something."

I literally had things to do with myself. "Stop with the joke. I don't have time for this." I rebuked his talk immediately. He made a serious face. "But I'm not joking. I'm being serious right now. I have my reasons for it. Listen to me first. Please." He uttered. And, I could tell from his facial expression that he was dead serious. But if that was the case, he was obviously crazy. Live with him? Leave my family? What was he even saying?

he begins his voice deathly low and serious, "I need your help to kill your father." I blink up at him, unsure if I've heard him correctly. It's a joke, it had to be. A sick one, no doubt, but still, it had to be a joke. Because there was no way he was being serious. I search his face hoping to find something to back up my notion but instead, I'm met with a stoic expression that forces me to believe the seriousness behind his words "What?" I manage to whisper, barely holding back the shock I felt.

I can't even utter a word. "No, she's my wife." Zik interrupted O_____O my reaction "HAHA! dude! I didn't know you were a joker now, you weren't like that before." Zak said with a smile. My eyes widened and I think I swallowed my own tongue because I couldn't speak. "Do I look like I'm kidding? I'm f*cking serious." Zik said. Zak's smile suddenly disappeared and his face suddenly became serious. "We'll talk later." Zik said and he dragged me to the classroom and when I turned to Zak for a moment. He was left gaping and unable to believe what he had just heard.
